"NDS Delivers Convergence" *Snort*

Some of you like me don't want to be tied to a Sky hardware solution when all that you really want is to watch whatever channels you pay for but using the kit you want to use.

That's why I mostly use my HTPC and a Dreambox to watch TV. I don't want to be tied to a Sky box when I can record programming to my hard disk and watch on my laptop later or can stream from the HTPC to my laptop upstairs. Why be restricted to piping the signal by coaxial cable one channel at a time or use a ropey video sender that interferes with the wireless network when you can watch TV on your Wireless network?

That's why I'm watching the upcoming Sky card swap with some trepidation. I'm hoping I won't be forced back to a basic zapper box that can't record programming, with an EPG chock full of channels I don't want.

And now NDS are using the Tagline "NDS Delivers Convergence"!

I'm aware that NDS are capable of original thinking as far as the fact that customers want to access programming on their computers and on mobile phones, but the way Sky (owned by News Corp, as are NDS) think you will have to have these options using the Sky model, i.e. pay more for it.

I have convergence NOW. I have all the channels I could ever want, available to me on different platforms at home. What I fear is with the NDS card swap coming soon all that convergence will be taken away.

    Convergence is a dirty word.
