heading to london later this year with my bike, have been making inqueries, and seems only part of journey causing a problem is from dublin to Dun Laoghaire, can take bike on train from sligo to connelly and on boat/train from Dun Laoghaire to london, but seems cant take it on the dart, any ideas any way around this or is their a bus/coach service from busaras that will take it, cant find anything on the bus errainn website, would consider cycling it only for the luggage,

Can't you get the Rosslare Line. Doesn't that go via Dun Laoghaire?

unless your hitting connolly in rush hour - I dont think it would be a real issue, I would just jump on ( not like there is many staff about !)
I know there is defo a few trains that go through connolly to rosslare etc that they couldn't stop you on.

else pay 20 quid in a taxi

just seen that connolly/rosslare service timetable, if its a commuter train/rail car, and outside rush hour cant see it being an issue,

have often seen bikes on the old commuter train on the sligo/connelly service

    Give yourself plenty of time.

Buy a through ticket to take you from Sligo to Dun Laoighre.

When you get to Connolly, don't exit through the barriers. Chances are you will arrive in the main station area. Walk around to Platform 5 or 6 and jump on the next train southbound.

If you get anyone on a power trip, just stay on the platform. They will get bored and you can just get the next train.

You could be sneaky and cover your bike in black plastic. If someone corners you, just deny its a bike. :D

Now you could take the piss, and cycle through Connolly station to the Dart platform. :p

But in the end, just give yourself plenty of time. You'll never know if you meet someone who decided on his/her way to work that he/she is going to find someone in order to boost their ego with a silly power trip.

LOL! Great idea. Put it in a particularly long suit carrier. "This? This is my work clothes, sir!"

Used to be you could bring your bike in the guard's van, but they don't have guards' vans on the trains any more, I think.

Incidentally, I've brought bikes on planes as part of my luggage (though not recently); they ask you to take off the pedals and turn the handlebars under, and each time I did it they managed to break the gears, so it's a good idea to cover them with those plastic-plate kind of gadgets they use when delivering bikes to shops (ask in your local bike shop).

Some Dublin - Dun Laoghaire - Rosslare services will be gettting 22000-class trains which can carry bikes (initally 1-2 in a cupboard, but soon 2 more in a rack).

If you are using Eurolines, you should be able to keep your bike on the bus from Sligo to London, although you may have to change bus at Busáras.

was/am considering that opiton, but am put of by sitting on a bus for that amount of time, plus last time i left baggage in the hold of a bus at busarus, it was not there when i reached my destination, would be very wary leaving a bike in it unless i locked it to the hold frame (the cris-crosing bars inside)

lol, although could be in breech of irish rail by laws
