    Hi :)
Friend of my friend asked me for building small network in his office - just connect 5-10 pcs together - they are located in two buildings. Also few machines needs to be rebuild with fresh windows installation, and have some small backup system...
He is asking for price and here is the question - how much should I take for it? dont want to take too much or too low :)
    any ideas lads?
    thx for all your help

If pricing is difficult for you perhaps agree on a per hr rate and charge for parts used?

Get the spec very clear from the start. It seems very vague from your above post. If he knows what to expect of you from the start, then he cant keep piling on extra little jobs to the task. Could end up being a nightmare of a job IMO.

Have you done this type of work before? Are you clear as to what exactly needs to be done? EG Lengths of Conduit, cabling, no. of network points, patch panels, 1Gb switch, cabinet etc etc. Make sure to get all the details clear to start.

Itemise everything, each individual task. Then you can make a site visit and make a list of everything you'll need to get it done - like unnamed user lists - and it gives you the opportunity to take measurements, log onto PCs and spot potential issues before you get there.

Then provide an itemised quote detailing exactly what the parts & labour will be for each task. This prevents him from adding on little bits here and there without being aware that it'll cost more.

Also inventory every machine. If he wants them networked, then he's probably going to want them to talk to eachother. So you need to know what OSes are in use and what standard of hardware is in each.
If it's case that he just wants all machine connected to the web, then you'll have an inventory for when he inevitably comes back to you looking for a file server set up.
