    Hey guys,

I was driving out of an industrial estate in Navan today the road in it is full of potholes. There was a van pulled in a head of me so I went around him and when moving back into lane I landed in one of them and bent my alloy. I was wondering who is responsible for the roads in an industrial estate and if there's a chance I can get them to have it repaired. I know where the van driver works if I needed a witness (I think) Any advice?

Best thing you can do is take a picture of your wheel/the pot hole and get a qoute for repairing/ replacing your rim. Ring your local council office and see who you need to send info onto. Be prepared to be persistant once you get name and number. I know when other half was putting in a claim for broken exhaust she was given the number of the engineer who goes out to check out road cond't/claims. The pictures came in handy as they usually fill the post holes every couple of days up are way...........

If its an industrial estate, the chances are its not the councils responsibility...

Thats what I thought. Going to get photos this evening though. I dropped the girlfriend to work today and I counted the potholes (they've been there months) and there are 8 in the space of 3 car lenghts. Half of them 6 inches deep or more. Id usually shrug my shoulders get the alloy mended and figure its not worth my time but that patch of road is a disgrace.

    Edit-
    Thanks for the advice lads.

A road is not the councils responsibility if it hasn't been 'taken in charge'. If it doesn't have a road number (ie. L5019/N11) then it hasn't been taken over. If you ring your local area office they will tell you over the phone usually.

Oh and another little note not related, but if it's not taken in charge it's not a public road therefore you can't be done for speeding on it!

It wasn't beechmount by any chance?

If so the council have no responsibilty for it

There's a lot of such potholes in Drimnagh where you have the concrete paving on the road with the tar poured in the joints.... each time it rains a few old reliables become erroded again and whack you alloys every time.... the council countinually slap a spade-load of tar-mac into them, but without cutting out the offending piece of road and replacing it with a nice even patch of concrete with the joints filled with tar - then it won't last... really annoying... as you know their there, but on occasion you have to swerve or take a different driving line for whatever reason... baaam.. ouch... when your wheels get pounded like that... it's like you personally take the hit yourself...

... doubled with a pocket hit for damage is real annoying... it takes its toll on shocks, struts, bearings and racks.

get some compensation offa those council guys.... as if we all took the hastle to follow up our claims, they might decide its better to spend the money on some real repairs.

In fairness... the whole country has been a building site for a decade and all the heavy equipment moving around really ploughs things up!

The roads must be killing all you boys riding around on low-proliles...

No Mullaghboy off the athboy roundabout. B11Gt00e yeah them low profiles are not great. My car was bought from my uncle for a cheap family price :) and had low profiles. The next one I get wont have alloys. Not in this country.
