I registered for the 'Try-a-tri' which will be my first ever event. I booked it at lunchtime and it was about half full by then.

I'd tried to book the Fingal Sprint yesterday but was too late. Seems that even getting registered on a tri is competitive enough.

Indeed !! And good luck on your first Tri - it's a great event - brilliantly run...

I feel sorry for those who will be disappointed not making it, but it is great for the sport to see such demand.

It is a super day out and even though it's two months off, I'm looking forward to it already.

I love being from Limerick and the Joey Hannon is the polar opposite of all the negative view of the place that the media put forward. UL campus looks great and the buzz is real.

+1 - As a Dub I had the good fortune of working in Limerick for a few years - smashing place, smashing people and sport mad - the campus is indeed the showcase for all that...

Guys anyone know what the average time for the 26K biking would be for the tri a tri?

+1 For the guys on Limerick being a great place :D Despite negative press Limerick is an excellent sporting city. The Arena is probably the top sporting facility in the country and this is where Joey is based!

I would advise NOT comparing yourself to times in previous events. For one it could have been a glorious sunny day or a gale force wind! Secondly why compare yourself to the results of people you don't know in a race you have never experienced before?! If its your first event just ENJOY IT :D You can always come back and do it faster!

To answer the question asked though the average bike split for the Try a Tri last year was 26km in 57'31" which would have put you 96th out of 165 on the bike. The standard distance average split was 42km in 1'19'20" which was about 82nd out of 157 on the bike.

Bear in mind these are averages for the entire field (not considering swim and run) so getting these bike splits puts you into the middle of the pack! Personally I would be thrilled to finish in the middle of the pack! Realistically just judge your pace of what you have been doing in training ;) and enjoy the event. Can't wait for it myself!

All of the Tri's have people of different abilities. I would expect the decent cyclists would hope to do the 26k in around 40mins and i would think 60mins would be a good target for a beginner. but if it is your first Tri you might want to hold back a bit on the bike so the run will be more comfortable, try and get some brick sessions in before the race so you know how your legs will feel going from bike to run, it can be painful for the first few mins but soon you get the running muscles going.

Hi all thanks for the advice. I suppose I don't really want to compare myself to anyone. My goal is to just finish the race and if I do better that's great! But I was just wondering what the average time is so that I have some idea of what to aim for and also to see if I'm way off.

Thanks again! Can't wait. :DBeing a Limerick girl living in Dublin I am always biased in thinking Limerick is the best. Up Munster!:D

Same here. I'll be happy to finish and then will start working on improving for the next Sprint Tri.

I've been trying brick sessions swapping between my bike (on a turbo) and my treadmill and now know that I can do the distances. I just need to work on my swimming now. First lesson booked tonight.

while Im not currently a member of Lim Tri club Ive done the Joey every year for the last 7 or 8 yrs. I totally forgot to check out the Lim Tri website recently, and therefore did not realise that the deadline for applying for the Joey has come and gone....so Im annoyed at myself  for missing this (only myself to blame of course).
I know with the HOW (Hell of the west tri) that there are phased application dates, does anybody know if it will be the same this year with the Joey, or have I missed the boat totally for this years event?
