THIS would be my choice, perhaps a bit dated, but lenovo are renowned for their reliability and ruggedness. The specs are adequate, with a 2.0 ghz Dual core processor, 2Gb of RAM and 250Gb Hard Drive, i'd say you'd find it hard to better that for the price.

thanks both, would the dual core processor be ok in that lenovo. id like a bit more ram but i suppose its cheap enough to upgrade. when you say dated do you mean the n500 is the lower end of their range.

Think it's a little over your budget but having worked with laptops for years, I found my sweet spot with a Dell M1330. Smaller screen but really really bright, fantastic everything (battery, speed, stable). Don't touch Acer - had two (paid €2500 for my last) and had too many faults to list. Dell hasn't caused a minute of bother and is a speed demon. Love the LED bright screen and faster hard drive. You won't be disappointed. Don't worry about the smaller 13.3 in screen - keeps the battery going for longer and is really compact. For longer sessions, buy a cheap 20" LCD and relax,

    JK

    Asus. Trust me.

Asus make 80% of all computer mother boards, the reason they are much cheaper than most of there rivals is because it's all there own hardware inside.

After you own an Asus you'll feel embarrassed for those who don't.

I would also recommend that Lenovo. It comes in well under your budget and the base specs are perfectly respectable. It's got a good dual core and the GMA4500 is great as far as integrated graphics go.

I wouldn't call it dated, the N500 series are brand new.

Just while we are on the subject(i dont want to take up thread space) can any one recommend a good laptop 800-900 euro..it needs to be good for wireless and generally good for docments and maybe gaming?

Would I be better off with a toshiba or Vaio or what?

alan are there any other models worth considering before i go ahead with this one.

do you know of a good value bricks and mortar shop where i could purchase it rather than do so online. i cant buy from lenovo direct and am concerned about after sales support etc

I might be interested in this, too, but it says "discontinued" on that site and a quick google doesn't find another Irish or British online seller.

There seems to be a 160GB version there for E480 or so but I'm not sure if it's the same or, if it is, if it's good value for a smaller hd.

    Thanks for the tip.
