This is a recent problem. All along my webcam has worked fine and I have been able to receive video fine. Now I only see a black screen from my mate's webcam but they can see me fine. I can take video snapshots of them so I have no idea what's going on. Any help gratefully appreciated.

If you're still able to take snapshots then it's not a hardware issue, so I'd suggest it's either a faulty driver or Skype has lost some information about the webcam which it should recover doing the following:

Ask your friend to visit the website of the manufacturer of their webcam and download the latest driver. Install / re-install this driver.

In Skype try to deselect the current webcam and then reselect it (choose a different webcam to use with Skype and then go back to the existing one).

I now know the issue is def with my Skype not other people's webcam. I uninstalled Skype and downloaded the new version but have the exact same issue with it.
