My partner was thinking of buying one and heard that if you need to change the front bulbs you have to have the bumper removed  Seemingly it's an hours work in a Renault garage. That's a very expensive bulb! Is this true?

Renault and bulbs are a bit of a nightmare. We have a Megane and I've heard the bumper horror stories, yet the reality is Renault Sandyford will do it while you wait, without appointment, for €12 including the bulb, I watched them and it took a few minutes, I hope your Modus is the same.

I changed both bulbs in my wife's megane and while Renault sure don't make it easy, it can be done.
There is a removable panel in each of the wheel arches that allows you to get at the connectors.
It still isn't easy to do this, but with some persistance and lots of swearing I go there.

There was much made of this with the Megane, and the much link to 5th gear spot were an "expert" took 45 mins to change a bulb.

It can be change in the normal way, taking a few mins, its just cramped, fiddly and small hands are needed.

I never mastered getting the bulb out, I could reach it, get the connector off but couldn't get the bulb it to budge by pulling, pushing, twisting. Felt like if I persisted something might brake. This on a facelift 2006, any ideas?

Do you know that there is a spring-loaded 'wire' bracket holding it in place?
You need to squeeze the front 2 pieces together and then hinge it up over the connector

Also - when you do get the bulb out - try to keep an eye on what way up the new bulb needs to be to be inserted as you are not going to be able to see this - you will have to feel for it
