For people based in and around Dublin...

seeing as there are a few of us racing this year, I am wondering if folk are interested in doing race specific training sessions?

I'm talking about learning how to ride with discipline in a pace line doing up and overs and getting comfortable with riding at speed in close quarters.

I figure it could be something for the evening times when we start to see a stretch. Perhaps we could alternate location: northside one week, southside the next.

I'm not racing but i would feel more comfortable learning a few things before joining a club. I would prefer to learn a thing or two from you guys rather than kicked out of orwell or some other club on first go.

    I'll keep up, don't worry!

Well I know dick all, and I will be going out with the club at the weekends in order to learn there also.

i'd like to give this a go at some stage. i need to be taught how to go fast and not be stupid.

joining a club will teach you all how to do these things, club training spins are all about teaching these things, you wont be expected to do your turn at the front if you are not comfortable with it, but i suspect pace won't be a problem with some of you . Dirk is being modest, he rides quite well, and spins nicely on draggy climbs, I know, he passed me yesterday when I was grinding with my mech probs, but, I would have struggled anyway, if the bike was perfect, I don't climb,I descend.......and that's when I'm climbing:D

this is the right idea raam. talk to sean lally from swords, he will teach you a lot about racing. dirk, get yourself into a club if you want to learn. riding with inexperienced riders will teach you nothing. where did you get this opinion of clubs? clubs are only too happy to see new riders show up and be eager to learn to ride in a group etc. come with the dublin wheelers one of these days and i will show you the ropes.

Yeah Raam you should definitely head out with the Swords Saturday group. Meet at 8:30 at Blake's Cross - the pace isn't strong at all, few climbs if you want to test your legs.

I'd agree with ba and xz that joining a club is the way to go if you want to get used to riding fast in close quarters. Honestly, most of the people I've ridden with here will have no problem slotting in.

Having said that, there's a lot to be said for doing both, so Raam I'll definitely join you for a few of these.
