It always pays to shop around. I'm sure if you actually went back to Hibernian and told them about that offer, they'd give you a more realistic renewal quote. I have heard premiums have risen this year following a large number of claims last year though.

A lot of investments the insurance companies have made probably went quite far south with the whole financial crisis that's going on too. Hib upped my premium this year too but I managed to knock a few hundreds off it with a bit of shopping around.

I know I've said this before somewhere, but just be careful of 123.ie. I got a quote from them last year that was a fraction of the price of other companies. Then I discovered the excess was 4,000 euro....

No, that can't be right. My gf just bought insurance off them and the excess is transparent across the board, up to 24 it's €500 and upwards it's €200.

I'll be heading over to them come renewal as well judging by a quote they gave me last week, it takes €300 off my €800-odd premium with Capt. Shouldn't Have Bought Them Bank Shares.

CN upped my renewal by 25%

Got my renewal quote (Allianz) last week. Up by 15%. I'll be changing the car on the policy shortly so it'll be going up a bit more too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,689 ✭✭✭mondeo

My policy with quinn is up in april, I'm 26 and will have 5 years no claims discount at that point. i hope my premium does not go up but if it does I'll just bugger of to someone else. :D

just got a quote from tesco insurance. Was fairly good if you dont want open driving.
Was still cheaper than my current insurer even with the driving other cars

nononsense.ie seems to be the cheapest, but, FBD seem to run nononsense and for some reason its cheaper than going direct to fbd.

Yep there's that. Insurance companies typically make money in two ways. The natural one would be the incoming premiums deducted by the outgoing payouts. The other one is less understood by the general public but very important - the return on investing the surplus of the above

That would have been when they provided cover via a number of insurers; one of them being XSDirect... they now solely provide cover via Travelers. Looks like my insurance will drop 600 quid on renewal if I go with 123 over Quinn now.

Jumping on this tread, I'm changing my car(to one with half the cc). Will the price up if I just change the car, seems unfair if it does since I've already got the policy for the year but I wouldn't but it past them.

It depends on the car. Some cars are considered a higher risk (no matter what the CC). Before changing you should put your details and the car into that quoteclub site ( its mentioned above on the thread) and see how much you can get your insurance for. When you find the cheapest quote its prob best to call your current insurer and tell them you have a better quote, from what I've heard your current company will match the price ( they need the money also remember),

It went from a 96 opel corsa to a 99 subaru vivio(which I have been told by the owner is not a good idea to go over 100km/hr, 'it doesn't take to wind well'

I went on that, the cheapest seems to be about €1030(without windscreen cover), the insurance I have now is €820(with windscreen cover)

Thats a serious difference, how long ago did you get the 820 price ?

It was just before christmas I got the quote and I insured it on the 31st dec.

It might be on that website theirs no vivio, so I had to go for the nearest thing to cc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,750 ✭✭✭✭galwaytt

FFS !! My daily driver (Saab 9-3 diesel) renewal came in the post yesterday - Eur 732 !! I'm 42, full NCB, no claims - ever - that is fcuking outrageous, and huge jump since last year.

looks like I'll have to take a day off this year to sort insurance !

The major increases seem to be only kicking in now. I've a friend who works in insurance and he was telling the last month that prices have been artificially low for the last while.

I wonder if Quinn's difficulty re: Anglo is having an effect on the market also?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,462 ✭✭✭Orla K

I went onto the hibernian and quinn website to get a quote for the corsa and vivio.

    Hibernian
    Corsa 1,069.12
    Vivio 1,053.00

    Quinn
    Corsa 1,120.03
    Vivio 1,246.71

The vivio has half the cc of the corsa. I know subaru has that boy racer image but no boy racer would buy the one I'm getting. This is a picture of one like mine(soon to be mine)

    weird that

though premiums arent solely calculated by the percentage chance of boy racers owning them - cost of repair, ease of robbery, odds of being a deathtrap etc etc add up too

When shopping around in January, my broker was €30 more with Sertus than 123.ie. Then House insurance was then due - €310.00 with Quinn - €650 with Hibernian!!!!!!!! The broker reckons "since the recession" people are claiming for things that aren't broken??? Of all the BS excuses, that one takes the frigging biscuit. I told him he should think about not using Hibernian if thats their attitude.

Brokers are a funny breed, they get kick backs from different companies depending on the amount of business they give he company.

Mine went up 150, made some (1) calls, ended up renewing with oringinal insurer for 50 less than last year. You'd have to wonder why they increased it at all if they were willing to cave once I mentioned that I had one quote for less.

i wont be calling hibernian back anways, i see no way they could lower 995 to sub 530 euro, no way. Might go ahead and purchase the 123 quote [for mid march] now before that jumps too !!
    Dose anyone know if 123.ie/travellers

--charge/refund for change of car [downsizing soon]
--alow policy freeses whicle i go travelling [putting in secure lock up]

I got my renewal from insure.ie for 600 which was 50 more than last year. Rang around and was getting a quote for 450 but this was only with step back no claims protection and had a quote through pibasure.ie for 441.

Rang another local crowd and they were saying 700 for a policy with full no claims protection said I had a quote for 590 with full no claims protection and 441 for the step back policy. They said if you can email us the lower quote we will match it for the 700 policy. So I was well happy. So I'm saving around 100 on last year.

Guys Try AARON Insurance 01-4782020, I got my Fully Comp quoute cheaper than any of the TPFT quotes I was getting from all the high flyers!

I'm insured with Allianz through Aaron.

What's up with nononsense.ie. They wont give me a quote on an Octavia vRS tFSI 2.0 petrol, but will quote me if it was diesel. Same story if I change it to a Golf 2.0 Gti, Saab 93 2.0t, Audi A4/A6 tFSI - basically anything with a 2.0 litre tubro petrol engine they won't quote on, but diesel is ok. Makes no bloody sense considering they will quote on a BMW up to a 525 or a Merc CLK . Tried fbd.ie with same result. I'm 39 with full no claims, no points, driving 20 years. Seems these guys have dozens of cars listed they won't quote on, regardless of age, driving experience. Maybe Mercs/BMW's are deemed to be driven by lower risk drivers.

    Try: http://www.pibasure.ie

They give different quotes often! It can vary by a few hundred weekly I noticed. Some amazing, some not so amazing. Depends on your details and the time of day it seems... :)

I was with FBD for over 2 yrs but changed to 123 who quoted 80 cheaper for same comprehensive insurance.

Seeing as they're a broker it shouldn't really matter what backing they've got - your insurance is with Travelers either way.

Yeah I think I'm going to go with the Traveler's quote they offered me. Definitely the most competitive looking of the lot.
