Rent allowance - Confusion

Hi I just need some advice re rent allowance/supplement.

It says on www.welfare.ie that the max you can say your rent is for living in Clare/Tipperary/Limerick is €100/week (single person), if your rent is €500/month, do you have to lie and just say its just €100/week? With landlord agreeing? Can they check your bank?

How much rent allowance will you get if it is €100/week?

    Thanks in advance!

Can you link to webpage where it says that? The link posted is to a general page.

yes the limit is €100 for a person living on their own (if you sharing the limit is €75). You used to have to pay €13 of this yourself but they changed it in dec/jan and think you have to pay €18 now yourself. If rent is over this they won't approve it as you would be paying over €20 out of your dole for rent which you shouldn't be able to afford. I know people who have got their landlord to say its €100 when the rent is more. Your rent will be a little more than €115 a week so you'll be paying €32 out of your dole money towards the rent.

Not sure bout them checking bank a/c but i've never heard of it happening. They might want to visit your accomodation to check if its suitable though and if its more than 2 bedrooms you may be asked to find a smaller place.

one thing you can do is pay rent in two parts
i mean one according to social welfare and balance in
    second part

sometimes they do ask for rent book or bank statement
so its better to have the amount on payment receipt as
    proof
you can balance in any form

The SWA form is a state document and it's an offence for the tenant or the landlord to provide false information.

    Thanks for the replies!

So if rent is €440 a month (€110/month), then you'll be given about €90/week and then you cover the rest of the rent, €20?

1 month is not equal to 4 weeks (28days). if your rent is 440 p/mth it is 440*12/52 = 101.54 p/week. the limit is 100 p/week but you have to pay €18 of this yourself so you'll get €83 from rent allowance. you could ask your landlord if theres possibility of decreasing the rent for few months til you get work again. There is less demand for rental properties and they may agree.

Im on SW & looking to move to 2 bed house in dublin approx 950 p/m with my partner who is working. Can i claim Rent allowance on my half of the rent? If not will a landlord take on a couple with only one in employment?? If anyone has been in this situation before or has any advice it would be much appreciated.
I know some ppl claim r/a and just have their partner live there unknown to SW but i'm a c**p liar and couldnt do it!:p
