Sky+ Box (Amstrad) crashing - Help!

I've had Sky Digital for a few months and I'm currently on my second Sky+ box. The first, Thomson box stopped working and wouldn't tune to various channels, so they replaced it. My current Amstrad box has now started to crash at random intervals, but particularly if playing back recorded material or during live pause.

I've gone into the Service 4-0-1 Select service menu and have rebuilt the Sky+ planner, that didn't help. So, I reset the entire system, it has continued to crash intermittently.

I've contacted Sky, but I'd say it'll be a while before they can get anyone out.

Is there anything else I could try ?

The signal levels on both sat feeds seem quite OK about 75%-80% and the signal quality is good.

You surely must be one of an unlucky few to have an Amstrad Sky+ box in Ireland.

When somebody comes back out to repair your setup, insist on a Pace, as it's the most reliable out of what's on offer.

I'm another lucky one with an Amstrad box.
It "freezes" the picture on an almost daily basis. Anything up to 15 seconds at a time.
I've gone through all the steps as mentioned by Solair in the opening post.

Despite numerous calls to Sky, they've yet to admit that there is a problem with the box. I have it about 2 years now, can I insist that Sky replace it?

    Thanks for any info!

    Al.

They'll say it's out of warranty after 12 months, mine is under 12 months old.

I would suggest that you get in touch with the NCA (National Consumer Agency)

    http://www.consumerconnect.ie/eng/
    1890 432 432 or (01) 402 5555

You're entitled to a 'reasonable' life span, 2 years for a set top box is a bit ridiculous.

Your statutory (enshrined in law) rights override anything Sky put into their warranty.

Threaten to cancel if they dont replace the box and quote why should i pay for something i cant see or use! you might have to pay for an engineer to come out if you dont ring to complain.

    Thanks guys.

Time to get on the phone & wait the now customary 30 minutes before Sky bother to pick up the phone at the other end.

Mention that you're going to change to Chorus, that usually works. Even if it's not available in your area. Mention that there's a wonderful broadband bundle :D
