Hard to believe it's nearly 20 years since this was first released. Still sounds great too

Got them dancing to guitars again in Manchester, after the (admittedly also brilliant) Smiths and their hand-wringing.

"Shoot You Down" is funky as beJesus.

One of those examples of an album whose hype can truly be believed. Remarkable songs. The intro to I Wanna Be Adored gives me goosebumps every time, This Is The One gives me a lump in my throat, I Am The Resurrection and She Bangs The Drums just make me feel so happy.

The original reviews of it (back in '89) weren't all that favourable either. The fickle indie media (Melody Maker, NME) were too busy waxing poetic about american noise bands (e.g. Butthole Surfers) to lower themselves to acknowledge a pop masterpiece. It's kinda sad what followed too - the second album had a couple of good tracks but is fairly turgid in comparison. I wonder will Brown and Squire mend their differences for a lucrative renuion tour?

Cracking album. Starts off brilliantly with adored, she bangs the drums and waterfall.

Good tunes through the middle sugar spun sister and made of stone.

Probably my favourite 2 song ending of any album as well. Never gets old.

Not sure about the NME but I remember the Melody Maker gave it a brilliant review. Called it Godlike and gave it more or less full marks.
