    Hey guys,

Just looking for a little help. I currently have a dell xps 420 with the following card,
    Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1200 (Model 71xxx, Hybrid DVB-T).
I'm looking to set up my PC to accept signal from my ntl digital STB. Is this possible with the card i have. And if so, how do i go about doing this.

    Please help.

If anymore info is required from me just tell me wot u guys need to know to help.

    Thanks in advance

You need to take the composite output from your NTL box and plug them into the card.

If you want to have your NTL box connected to your TV and PC, then split the scart output. One split for TV and one for PC card.

The card has an audio line in so you'll need to get the audio L+R to a stereo connector. The card probably came with a s-video-composite video dongle, if so, connect the composite video output from the scart to the dongle. Otherwise use a svideo cable. There are loads of connectors available from scart to svideo/composite. Powercity or argos would have them.

Post back if you need more info on that.

If you are thinking about using the DVB-T, then I have no idea. Doesn't sound legal unless you get something that takes your NTL card.

    Thanks for the reply.

Ok, The way i'm acually set up right now is,

I have my ntl box connected to cable as always. Its working fine, no problem with the STB. I have a scart to RCA adapter in the STB and from that i have an video compsite cable connected to my T.V card in my PC. Still have no channels/signal etc. What am i doing wrong??

Have you tried connecting the RCA cables to your TV to ensure they have the video and audio signals? My RCA adaptor has an in/out switch. Has yours? If so, toggle the switch to test.

And what app are you using on what OS to view the captured TV?

To be honest i actually havent. The cables could very well be faulty. They're pretty old. I'm using Vista Media Centre view the incoming stream.

Is there a better app i could use??

    Hey Baz

So it turns out it was the cable after all. I got a new one today and got a signal wit MC for the 1st time.

Of course tho it still didn't go smoothly. At the min i'm left with a pretty terrible picture and the picture is significantly delayed to the audio(which is comin strait from the box to speakers).

Any idea wot the problem could be??

One thing to change before trying out things with the teriible video is you have to have the sound going through the PC to your speakers. The card encodes the video and audio into a mpg2 stream. The PC decodes this and plays it. This takes a couple of seconds.

So if you take the sound from your NTL box, the sound is instant, but the video does the above. Even with the setup above, you wont be able to record. Theres be no sound on playback.

Fix this up and post back the exact steps you are taking in the TV setup within MC.
