    Seems a bit expensive compared to this which is a year younger and a higher spec model:

    1.4 litre only has 75bhp so I would see if you can stretch to a 1.6 litre or 1.9 TDi. Just make sure all the electrics work.

    i dont know how much itd cost to get insured on a 1.6. suppose its prob heavy aswell, 75bhp wouldnt be enough really. cheers

    i have the newer model 1.6. The 1.4 really isn't up to much. Plus you have the same problems with that engine that you would have with the golf 1.4. Just do a search for that here. Mines been great bar a new air con compressor being needed but that was a warranty job. Have driven the older model 1.6 through an old job. Its a nice drive too and that car lasted up well even though it got serious abuse. One of the lads even bought it for his wife when they were finished with it. I still see it about the place. Just make sure the timing belts been done including the water pump. Its every 4 years or 60k miles. You could get it done for 500ish at a good independent.

    Seat = Spanish = Greasy Daegos = poor QC = poor reliability:cool:

    its the same with the italian makes.....fiat & alfa romeo

    You'd get a full leather, top spec 04 Hyundai Elantra for less than that Seat.Very comfortable and 1.6 motor produces about 105bhp or so, which is decent enough.

    If you have a full licence, then going from a 1.4 to 1.6 will be nothing, €100 tops imo.

    Wow, what a sweeping statement. While I'm not a huge fan on the VW's that SEATs are based on (and often beat in reliability tests), I reckon if you went a bit more in-depth as to why SEATs are rubbish then it might sound more credible.

    Oh yeah ...and the uber-efficient German engineering prowess only turns out flawless VW's, right.

    Go easy on the insults there

    What a bull statement. Is there any facts or anything to base this on? The fact Seat are based on VW and use many of their components puts them up there in the reliability stakes. Alfas aren't as reliable, but they are drivers cars. Fiats have come a long long way in the past few years and are no where near as bad as they were in the 90's and early 00s.

    BMW = German = Big sausages = Hitler = We're all screwed
    (I like this game :D)

    +1 with regards electrics.

    When I had one, every time there was something wrong, it was electrics and it happened too damn often for my liking. From headlight relays, wiring melting, replacing central locking mech on passanger side, wipers fail and headlights switch, etc. Lovely car, but electrics became too much a PITA.

    What ill-informed and utter twat. Seriously, would you care to elaborate? I have a feeling if you do it will be a friend of the brothers third cousin twice removed kinda thing...

    I'm on my second SEAT in 8 years and only problem I've had was a pipe blow off on my remapped 2.0Tdi so.. they've caused me 1 problem in 8 years of motoring.

    Generally I'm not that lucky..

    I can't really comment on the price as I don't know what they go for these days but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend that model Leon. Mine never missed a beat and I'd always choose it over the wife's newer Pug 307 if we were going on a trip.

    The 1.4 gives adequate performance IMO. I think it has shorter gearing than the equivalent golf so feels a bit more sprightly but the trade off is, it's a bit buzzy over ~80mph. Biggest problem with going for a 1.6 will be finding a good one. They sold about 20 1.4s to each 1.6 in Ireland.

    Do try and move up from the Stella trim if possible though, it's pretty basic.
