    Do many people do this?

Is there anyplace to go that you can sit down somewhere and just go ahead and use your laptop in public without getting any hasstle.

I know some people go into cafes but I'm sure they wouldn't just like you sitting their taking up space in their cafe.

So maybe people who have used their laptops in public might tell us where they go and share their secret

cafes. mcdonalds. They dont mind because in order to access their wifi you need to buy something. coffee, mcmuffin, whatever. Internet cafes in particular are probably well set up to handle personal laptops.

I remember being in Paris for the rugby world cup in Sep/Oct 2007. Was my first time seeing people sitting around café's surfing on ther laptops via house wi-fi which was available. Seemed kinda sad TBH sitting around surfing as opposed to chatting to people but it obviously had an attraction for those stuck into their computers.

My local pub has free wi-fi but i'd have the p*ss ripped outta me by the regulars if i landed in with me laptop and fired her up !

When living in Canada I didn't have a tv or broadband. So some evenings I would go to the local coffee shop and sit for hours drinking coffee, surfing the web, chatting to friends over MSN. I'd get the know the staff, get chatting to them etc. Eventually I ended up working there:)

I don't do the same here because I can do it in my own home. But I can't see anything wrong with it. Maybe if I lived in the city centre I'd do it while watching the world go by.

That's mad that security won't let people use laptops. I found on the second floor in dundrum town centre is a good place. It's just beside the gallery
