Summons question...

I have a few questions in relation to a summons.

I started a thread here back in November. Basically I was stopped for speeding and didn't have my licence on me. I was told to produce it at the local garda station. When I checked the licence at home that night it was out of date by 3 weeks. I brought it to the garda station, the guard couldn't have been nicer and all seemed to be sorted. I paid the fine and that was that. Until Friday. I've received a summons, which is fine, the licence was expired and that's my fault.

    The questions I have are:
    1) What summons would you normally receive for driving with an expired licence? I received a summons for driving without a licence - I'm assuming this is for the expired licence.

However, I also received 2 other summons... They look exactly the same and I can't see any difference between them. They're for Failing to produce a licence within 10 days?? I produced my licence at the garda station like I was told. I've no idea why I'm getting this summons? Can anyone shed some light on it?

You'll be fined for both as 'producing a license' is only counted when it's valid I'd say.

so that's what the failing to produce is about.

Thanks. I've just spoken to a guard friend of mine who says it's not a big deal and to contact the guard and hopefully he'll strike it out.

Something similar happened to me a few years ago. I was stopped for speeding and told to drop my insurance into my local garda station. I thought everything was grand until about six months later I received two summons for failing to produce insurance and driving without insurance. I went to my solicitor and he had a word with the garda who somehow managed to find out that I had dropped it into my local. The solicitor said that it was recorded in the logbook of my local barracks but it had not been entered on the computer system (Our local seargent wasn't far off retirement and I assume not the most computer literate) This was a rural village barracks. My advice would be to drop it into a barracks in your local town in future as it would have a better chance of being recorded if the barracks has a broadband connection. I'm led to believe most local barracks don't.
