    Hi All,

I'm sure this comes up all the time here but I couldn't see it in any of the topics below!

I think I've got the general gist of the situation so could anybody confirm or deny the following:

    1) If you got the maintenance grant as an undergrad and all things remaining the same you should get it again as a postgraduate?

    2) If you qualify for the HEG grant for postgraduate study it covers fees up to 6,200 euros, and the rest has to be funded by yourself?

    3) Do you also get the 'grant' (read money) part of the system? Like will I still get 3 cheques a year to spend on college expenses or whatever?

    Hi Moorsy,

    To answer your questions:

    1) Yes, under the present rules it basically continues on. There's a (small, I think) form to fill out I believe which details what course you'll be doing, but from what people on here have said it's easier than applying again.

    2) Yep, up to €6,270 according to last year's scheme - it usually goes up by a small amount each year.

    3) Yep, still get a grant.

Anything else feel free to ask! Keep in mind I'm basing my answers on last year's scheme, which is of course subject to change for 2009/10.

I found this thread very useful and I hope you don't mind me asking a few more questions to the list that is already here..

I intend on going back to do a postgraduate course this September.
I have been on the dole for the past 6 months or so after been out of the country for a few years..

I was entitled to the Full Maintenance Grant before (did an undergraduate degree) and I see no reason why I shouldn't be again this time.. The postgraduate course I have in mind to study has a tuition fee so I should expect most of that to be paid too...right as part of the Maintenance Grant I believe.

I am also looking at the Mature Student Grant. How does it work exactly? I have been living at home with my elderly father for the past 6 months. I am a bit confused about what exactly I am entitled to... (Independent Mature Grant? Dependent Mature Grant? Full Maintenance Grant? Back to Education Grant? Social Welfare Payments??)

Where should I turn to in looking for the funding or financial help and what do ye think I am entitled to?

    Thanking ye in advance!
