Based on the Indie Festival thread recently, lets imagine you had to a small festival.
So, 8 slots to fill, what bands would you like to see play your concert? Out of the fun, you can choose a band that no longer plays together for one reason or another.

Go! And hopefully some important person is listening to us :pac:

Seeing as this thread is concerned with live music, please bear in mind the thread stickied on this forum regarding MCD - e.g. don't mention MCD festivals.

    And keep it alternative/indie.

I'm not going to go for dead heroes like Kurt Cobain and reform Nirvana for this event so I've just brought one band back from the dead because I would loved to have seen them in their prime, and one other who were a fun band to see back in the day. Everyone else is my favourite live bands of the last 10-15 years.

    Muse
    Interpol
    Franz Ferdinand
    Black Rebel Motorcycle club
    Manic Street Preachers
    Mansun
    Jape
    Turn

I am extremely stupid also. I thought you'd seen all those bands live. I should learn how to read threads properly.

In fairness the OP did specify Indie music...
    Ah here it goes...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

Indeed the OP did specify indie music (by posting it in Alternative & Indie; I also emphasised it in post #5) yet other posters couldn't bother their arses sticking to that - that's what caused me to move it.

    diversity in music, eh? ;)

back on topic, i should have added Interpol to my list, they have great energy on stage

Jeez, how come people can't see that Alternative & Indie is not "music" in general, it's a genre? People wouldn't stick irrelevant acts in Jazz/Rock & Metal/Hip Hop/Dance/Soul... etc, yet somehow it's ok to do so in Alternative & Indie.
Don't put Bon Jovi (completely not Alternative/Indie) in Alternative & Indie - "that's not allowing diversity in music!" WTF?

If you want to talk about music in general, open a thread here in the Music forum.

    Sorry, sorry, sorry! :o

It's just, it's been happening a lot lately and it's frustrating that some people can't abide by a very simple request.

Thank God the Saw Doctors aren't indie, why would a band that great want to be associated with a genre that spits out common-as-muck bands such as the Blizzards?! (I think I might be getting something nasty going here but my heart and brain are not telling my fingers to stop typing!)

Echoing Kraggy on two fronts here:

    Saw Doctors
    Noelie McDonnell(ma home boiz)
    Meat Loaf
    Bruce Springsteen
    Status Quo
    Jackson Browne
    Elton John
Queen(my back from the dead band!)

True... it's a shame what indie has come to mean.

Okay, 8 bands in no particular order (but I'll make up the order when I have the thinking power).

    Pantera,
    Stone Roses
    Slayer,
    Megadeth,
    Aphex Twin,
    In Flames,
    Iron Maiden,
    Pendulum,

Actually, come to think of it, Joy Division aren't indie either, they're post-punk. This is why the notion of an 'Alternative' genre is BS. It's enduring shortcoming as a means of describing a category of artistic composition is highlighted through the following anecdote:

When Tom Waits won won his first Grammy for Best Alternative Album with Mule Variations, he replied "Alternative to what?". Therein lieth the problem.
