Paypal account

I placed bids on 3 "buy it now" items on ebay on Friday. I then went to pay using paypal. Problem is that I hadn't used my actual paypal account for a long time(I had forgotten my pass-word so used one off pay-pal payments for a few items that I have bought over the past few months)(Also it is a new credit card number and the credit card details in my original paypal account is no longer in use). Ebay required that I have a paypal account to pay for items, so I eventually was able to remember my details and log in to my account. The problem is now that I cannot add my credit card to that account because it said that it was already used by another account. I rang paypal who told me it was because it was linked to one of the "holding" accounts as they called it, after ages on the phone the lady said that she had sorted it and I should be able to add that card to my account. But I can't..

It was my first time using ebay, and I wasn't sure of the procedures. I really want to pay for the items but I can't. Is there anything else I can do to sort this out quickly? I don't want to be messing around the seller.

Contact the seller first, and let them know what's happening. Then you'll have to contact Paypal again about why the card isn't working.
