Also consider Hori Real Arcade Pro.
Or get a case from NorrisArcadeSticks.com & DIY it.

    What about one of these:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Subsonic-PS3-Arcade-Stick/dp/B0011EOPN2/ref=pd_sxp_grid_i_0_0

Seriously, unless you are a fighting game fanatic (i.e. you lose your job because you stay at home and play SF IV all day), why would you spend > €50 on a controller? Will you notice the extra €50+ of functionality? I doubt it...

(BTW, if you are a fighting game fanatic, you probably already own an expensive fighting stick)

Just because one learns to pwn, doesn't mean one is a stay-at-home hikkikomori -- in fact, fighting game fans, of all hardcore gamers, are the least likely to stay at home since the best competion is found at arcades & meets, and that means leaving the house (WoW players take note!).

Second, yes, you WILL notice the difference between a <€50 joystick & a €100 joystick.
This is because the <€50 joystick will use cheap, Chinese-made knock-offs of the €100 stick's arcade-grade sticks & buttons. Arcades, you must remember, use high-quality parts because they DON'T break down as quickly -- a HRAP will last you a good few years, while a cheap stick will barely give you a few months before buttons give out, or the stick starts sticking.

Oh, and that Subsonic... well, look at the price. Look at my comments. Then use your head. :)

Ok, so what about this Hori stick:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hori-Arcade-Fighting-Stick-PS3/dp/B000MWE3BI/ref=pd_sim_vg_h__4

Its made from Hori components, it gets generally good reviews and costs < €50

I have nothing against expensive sticks - some people play a lot of fighting games, and are very good at them, and will get some value from an expensive controller. I'm suggesting that many gamers are getting carried away in all the "Mad Catz SF IV Controller" hype, and mistakingly believing that they need to spend a lot of cash to get a usable fighting stick.

So, I guess my argument is:
    • If you play a lot of fighting games ( > 15 hours per week ), and intend to do so for many months/years, then buy an expensive stick.
    • If you just bought SF IV and want a fighting stick just because everyone says they are great, buy a less expensive one. You can always upgrade later, if you decide to.

My arguement is: why spend €50 now, and €100 later, when you could just spend €100 now and save that €50, while training on a superior stick?

Because a lot of people will never play fighting games enough to want to upgrade. I played a lot of fighting games on PS2, but never bothered buying a fighting stick. I'll buy SF IV, but I won't buy a stick.

These days people buy a lot of expensive stuff under some misguided notion of "needing" it. All I'm saying is: before you spend a load of money on an expensive stick to push a computer generated character around a screen, think about whether you really "need" it or not.

But hey - if you have the spare cash, and you just want it anyway, knock yourself out. :D

This looks like a bargain: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B001M25AY6/ref=sr_1_olp_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1235407983&sr=1-1

Yep, I do own an expensive stick and it's well worth it.
