Do you have a peek at it every now an then? You must get a bit of a laugh out of it sometimes. Are you offended by it? Do you find any of it funny?

    Sure.

It's not a running story you know. You don't have to read from the start, you can have a look at any random post.

Didn't know it was there. Would probably find it funny. However some of the troll-smashing pwnage that is doled out occasionally by the mods in here is probably way more funny.

I don't look at it, so it doesn't bother me.

Lets see, pop into a forum and ask those there if they follow a thread whose sole aim is to ridicule their beliefs, then ask them do they look at it and are they offended.

You don't need to be Einstein to see the real intention behind this thread.

I think each group should just stick to their own forum

You don't have to have a sense of humour to be an athiest/agnostic but it is hard not to go around with a permanent grin on your face when you see some of the stuff religious folk portray as gospel without a shred of evidence and then get all offended when you just dont go along with their mumbo jumbo. Like who are they trying to convince "themselves" or little old me

I'm agnostic but i don't see why so many a&a's feel the need to poke humour at religous people

If some of the religious types were really confident in their beliefs then they would have no problem with humour as they could easily cope with it. To be honest the better religions are at coping with questioning/humour then the more respect that I have for them.
At the present the great weakness of Islam is that it cannot cope with questioning/humour which leads me to believe that its believers are not confident in the truth of their religion.

Given that the Religious Humor thread is one of the longest on the A+A forum, it seems that quite a lot keeps our side laughing :)

But how come there's no equivalent thread here? Perhaps it's worth coining a new adage "Nothing at all amuses the true believer"?

Its just a guess but I would take a wild guess and say that you are a creationist.

I don't read said thread at all. I actually don't see the point of even discussing another thread in another forum. If we had seen your religious humour thread and thought it funny no doubt we'd be in there posting with you.

I think a sense of humour is a healthy thing to have, surely a lot of you have seen The Life Of Brian? Or Father Ted? Or Dogma? I know plenty of christians who find these hilarious. Lighten Up.

If you look through the humor thread you'll see some of it targets atheists too, comedy is comedy.

Probably because they don't care enough. :)

Well I saw PDN post in the thread so...

I just wanted to know what you thought of it. If there are any "cool" christians who can have a laugh at it.

Or we do have a sense of humour, but we just choose to respect divine teachings and reject blasphemy :)

Indeed. But sometimes it is best to let people prattle on and hang themselves with their own words.

Some of those things may be humorous to Christians and non-Christians alike, but it does not mean it's a good thing.
We really need to examine ourselves if we laugh at things which mock God, or ridicule His Holy Word. The things of God are not to be laughed at. There is a certain level of reverence expected when dealing with the Creator of the universe.
What may seem like innocent "fun" could be blasphemy in the highest degree.
Man was made in His image, and was expected to represent Him as the perfect Holy being that He is.

Don’t do it!” “Why shouldn’t I?” he said. “Well, there’s so much to live for!” “Like what?” “Well… are you religious?” He said yes. I said, “Me too! Are you Christian or Buddhist?” “Christian.” “Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant ? “Protestant.” “Me too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?” “Baptist” “Wow! Me too!

Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?” “Baptist Church of God!” “Me too! Are you original Baptist Church of God, or are you reformed Baptist Church of God?” “Reformed Baptist Church of God!” “Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915?” He said, “Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915!” I said, “Die, heretic scum”, and pushed him off.

No, quite rightly chozometroid was pointing out that some things are so precious that humour is inappropriate. Even non-religious people usually have subjects they regard as beyond humour, as advante garde alternative comedians sometimes experience.

It is one thing to laugh at human follies - especially our own - but quite another to laugh about God and His dealings with us.

But God does have a laugh too. He finds the self-assurance of the wicked risible:
Psalm 2:1 Why do the nations rage,
And the people plot a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,
3 “Let us break Their bonds in pieces
And cast away Their cords from us.”

    4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh;
The Lord shall hold them in derision
    .

    Psalm
37:12 The wicked plots against the just,
And gnashes at him with his teeth.
13 The Lord laughs at him,
For He sees that his day is coming.

So god does have a sense of humour then, just not a very good one. I'm not sure man, there are some things you shouldn't joke about i guess, but religion is such an easy target when it comes to these things.

As so often in life, there's a continuum between cruel, derisive and destructive humour designed to put people and ideas down, and creative, kindly humour designed to raise people up. God is not mocked, but I hope that God and those who serve Him are able to respond in an open manner to gentle humour.

Following up the reference to the religious humour forum, I noted several mentions of Jesus and Mo, a series of light-hearted cartoons making fun of some of the more extreme and more illogical views that some people of religion promulgate. A four-frame cartoon must inevitably caricature things and oversimplify, but at the same time it can be a useful antidote to pomposity, and can also be looked at for information on the sorts of argument that those hostile to religion are listening to.

So don't confuse light teasing with rabid mockery.

I've just checked, I have 11 posts in that thread, I must be one of the cool ones woohoo!!!:D:pac:

In fairness there are some very funny jokes in there but unfortunately some of the atheists go a bit over board at times, and what ceases to be funny also becomes very insulting for the sake of being simply insulting. It stems from an endemic atheist hatred of anything religious. I’d post more jokes in there myself but I just get the impression one’s humour is not welcomed, go figure.

I agree, I don't think it is true for all atheists either. Some are really sound and genuinely funny.
