Can anyone recommend a good book on optics? An introductory book or a college textbook. Preferably up-to-date! Thanks

try the feynman lectures. not too sure what volume its in but i found it very helpful with first and second year optics. and if youre studying physics, then you should already have a copy of it knocking about....

I just pulled out Feynmans Lectures on Physics there - Optics is covered in volume two, if you're interested. You should give a look through the Textbooks section on the top of this forum, I think I remember reading someone mentioning the so called "bible" of optics - can't remember its name, though.

    Try Optics, by Eugene Hecht.

Hecht is good, but I remember using Introduction to Modern Optics in 3rd year. It's a good basic book and still one that I refer to from time to time.
