Just a quick one to all of you fellow cyclists who know this already but I think that we can always play a role in safety awareness for all of the people that we meet who sometimes ride a bike.

My dad was hit by a car while out cycling yesterday, he is out of hospital and will be back on the bike in a couple of weeks hopefully. He was wearing a helmet
which did it's job and is now in two pieces.

Thanks to that, I still have my Dad.

The helmets issue is a thorny one round here so some may hold back on commenting, but cheers for letting us know and it's great your dad is okay.

Good to hear he is out of hospital, and on the road to recovery.

I also broke a helmet when landing on my head in an "over the handlebars" incident. I was happy to be wearing a helmet when I hit the ground, although some prefer to not wear a helmet.

glad to hear that your dad is ok.
In 1997 I was knocked of by a car. I was not wearing a helmet. I was 7 days in hospital and had 38 stitches in my face and head. The doctor reckoned that if I had a helmet on I would probably have got back on the bike and cycled home. According to him 90% of deaths of cyclists are from head injuries.

Have never got on a bike without one since and think anyone who does is mad.

i cycled all the way from knocklyon to hellfire carpark yesterday and then realised i forgot my helmet, half an hour later i returned to hellfire with a helmet, i don't like mtb'in or road biking without although i do commute with no lid i'm still not sure about that one..

I'd only really wear a helmet when I'm going for a spin that involves rapid descents, like in the mountains. Otherwise, such as on my flat commute, I think it's a needless and uncomfortable precaution.

+1 dont know why people dont wear them on the road. The lid has saved me from nasty knocks on two occasions. One on road and one off.

Imo there is no reason or argument strong enough for not wearing them at all times.
