Hi, hoping someone can either confirm what I think is the problem, or can recommend some other possible solution

my duaghter dropped her DS lite on a wooden floor last night - since then, the power indicator shows orange only and the screen doesn't power up at all.

I stuck it on charge which has the effect of extinguishing the orange power light - now there is no power indicator light at all, and basically nothing happens when I turn on the power switch.

Is it completely goosed or is there something that I can check further to determine whether it can be brought back to working order ?

Appreciate any help as it was a present from Santa and she's very upset about it !

    Daughters eh?

Mine did the same with hers last year - I would think it is almost certainly bangered - however the god news is that the good people at nintendo will fix it for you for free.

Go to www.Nintendo.com for more info.

They will send a courier out to collect it, fix it and return it for nothing - at least they should unless they have stopped this service since we got ours fixed.

This is the UK Customer service number - +44 (0)870 6060247

They will send you the freepost packaging to send the DS to them - I have been looking on the website and things do seem to have changed but your DS should be well within warranty - I would tell them it is no longer charging and probably wouldn't mention the dropping.

Someone here must know whether they have stopped fixing them for free?

I didn't even need a receipt when they fixed ours and it was not a defect - it was dropped.

    Cheers Zoltan28

Had a look at their website for the UK & Irl. region - looks like they charge for repair service now as they have a price-list published. I don't mind paying something....just want to get it fixed.

However, slight problem with the wannarty is that the console was bought in the US and their warranty piece on the website explicitly excludes consoles purchased outside of the EEA / EU region. I guess I'll call that UK number tomorrow and see if I can make some sense of what options are open to us.

Thanks for your help - much appreciated

I got asked about this problem by another poster this morning except it was their niece, is it the same DS?

The most probable reason the orange light isn't coming on anymore is because the battery is fully charged (this is normal for a DS)

The fact that the orange light used to some on means the DS should be fixable. I've done a good few that have had this problem, Either the power switch is broken or a component has fallen off the mobo.

Can you hear a rattle when you shake the DS? If yes its the latter problem which despite sounding worse is easier/cheaper than the switch.

I'd fix the switch for €35 + postage or if its the other problem (which is more common in my experience) it would be €25.

Feel free to PM if you have questions

    Cheers
