I'll give 1/100 that some talking head will come out with an earth shattering 'Binocular has an outstanding chance in the CH', followed by sage head-nodding from the rest of the panel as they digest this revelation.

Anyone at any preview nights with Enda Bolger? I personally think hes a cert to win the X-country again. Im favouring Garde Champetre but L'ami is definitly improving over the banks. Id have it between the two with L'ami getting 3lbs! I think the handicapper is spot on and it could be a blanket finish! I'd love to hear wat Enda Bolger thinks is his best chance?(although Ive seen him giv nothin away in the past!)

Im favouring garde champetre but just about!

the best thing about preview nights is that there is often a bookmakers rep there offering inflated odds on a few horses. Get on and hedge the lot on Betfair, pays for the night!!

I'd be worried that Garde Champetre is being aimed at the Grand National. One things for certain L'Ami will get a stronger ride than was the case last time over the banks at Cheltenham!!

Tips from the Roscommon Preview Night - Nina Carberry, Ted Walsh, Ruby Walsh, Ken Whelan and Tony Mullins:

Champion Hurdle - All said Binocular, Ken Whelan said Sublimity (each/way) and Tony Mullins said Won In the Dark (each/way)

Cross Country Chase - Nina said L'Ami is a big danger to Garde Champetre who needs good ground. Drombeag was also mentioned.

Ballymore Hurdle - According to Dick at 25/1 was given. Cousin Vinny was added, that's if he doesn't run in the Supreme Novices which Tony reckons he will.

Queen Mother - Twist Magic given (each/way). Tony Mullins said Masterminded was the best horse he had seen since Arkle.

Champion Bumper - With all the Mullins horses in this Tony Mullins gave Sicilian Secret as the best BUT gave a bit tip that he reckons Dermot Weld's Rite of Passage could upstage them. Nina Carberry had given the horse first before Mullins agreed with her.

Ryanair Chase - Voy Por Ustedes was picked by Ruby, Scotsirish was given as a good each way by Tony Mullins as was Massini's Maguire.

World Hurdle - Ken Whelan said Whatuthink (each/way), Kasbah Bliss was given by Tony Mullins and Fair Along (each/way) was also offered.

Triumph Hurdle - Master of Arts by Ruby, Jumbo Rio and Zaynar (if ground is soft) by Tony Mullins, Ebadiyan by Nina and Starluck by Ken Whelan.

Gold Cup - Albertas Run (good), Tony Mullins went for War of Attrition to get a place and Exoctic Dancer was also mentioned. They said Kauto wasn't value and all depends on what horse shows up. They said listen to the guys in commentary and if the horse is on his toes he'll win. Ted Walsh reckons Denman won't even finish the race.

    Foxhunters
    - Juveigneur and Royal Auclair.

    Arkle - Golden Silver.

Aside from that they said apart from the above races that they didn't have a clue who would be in the shake-up in the rest and punters were best served hitting the pub instead.

Ted Walsh or Tony Mullins also mentioned not to back many of Nicky Henderson's horses over the festival. Henderson has had them running on all-weather in the weeks leading up to the racing and the gamble hasn't paid off - a few have shown a terrible dip in form. They said that was a tip in itself.

Was a good night and Ruby didn't mince his words at times. He talked about Tom Scudamore as "the sprint jockey, the man who wants to sprint from start to finish to win a race". He also agreed that many of the Irish horses going over were terrible that "some of the English horses could carry them on their backs".

Did you ask them what price they would lay that at?

The more I go to these preview nights the more I wonder where their future lies or more so where the hidden agenda lie.

Tipped by all 4 panelists at a preview night in Fethard, Ken Whelan, Conor O Dwyer, Slippers, and the lad that writes for the herald, Niell cant remember his second name. Was the only race they all agreed on.
Edit to say bar Champion Chase.

At a recent preview night in Kildare . Dessie Hughes, Paddy Flood, Don mcClean and J D Moore.
Don mcLean was the only one talking some straight sense. JD sounded extremely unknowledgable about the english horses. Dessie and Paddy tipped Mullins in nearly every race !!! So he'll have 5 winners !!:o Stats and odds make that a near impossibility. When's the last time a trainer has had 5 winners at the festival, let alone an irish trainer ??
For me the absolute banker is Diamond Harry. He in unbeaten, ran badly last time but still won against Bensalem who is now fav for the albert bartlett novice and yet still because JP bought karabak, he is now fav. Diamond rated 155 won twice over C+D at cheltenham beating Bensalem, Door boy , massasoit, hells bay, etc etc. Karabak has never went 2m 5f although I think he will get it but for me Diamond to win. I don't think Karabak will make first 3.

This thread is three years old... There's absolutely no need to resurrect it!
