    I'm probably just showing off my ignorance but I found it hard to believe that he was the first Waterford person to have done it, I would have assumed that the likes of Gerry Deegan or John Treacy (double world cross-country champion and Olympic marathon silver medalist) would have done it but David was the first, so congratulations to him.

    Does anybody have a list of the 38 previous athletes who have achieved it.

    Interesting if you categorise it by decade:-

    1950s 1
    1960s 3
    1970s 4
    1980s 14
    1990s 5
    2000s 9

    It portrays the standards of milers in this decade reasonably well ... whereas the common perception portrayed by the media and retired runners is that standards are in decline.
