I see on TV3 they always advertise whats next on 3e so i looked around but i can't find any info regarding any future plans, if 3e will broadcasts on DTT FTA.

Personally i don't see why not. Possible more viewers, so bigger advertising revenue but i dont know about rights issues that might get in the way or maybe RTE/Government will not let them use their multiplex because they don't have any/enough public service programing..

Does anyone know anything about if 3e might become available free on DTT?

from the outset No because 3e is not a public service channel, much like city channels etc

Plus they show several shows that RTÉ have the rights to, so there would be rights issues there. I would imagine it will be part of Boxers pack of subscription channels when the service launches and only RTÉ ONE, RTÉ TWO, TV 3 ad TG 4 will be FTA on DTT, ever.

I suspect you'll see 3e free-to-air. 3e have introduced news to 3e in the last number of days. They are really short bulletins kinda like BBC3. I imagine that we'll see some more teen orientated Irish programming and that it will be free-to-air. Subscription doesn't work well for broadcasters, Channel 4 had this with Film 4 and they found FTA works better. Anyhow to get a terrestrial license they will have to increase their Irish output unless rules are relaxed so I disagree with the logic in it being subscription.

The problems with 3e being FTA are twofold:

    (1) It'll need carriage on a mux - this means either paying RTÉ for carriage or being part of Boxer's subscription package. Boxer have already said that they are running a purely pay-TV operation so if its FTA it'll mean paying for carriage on what - with RTÉ1, RTÉ2, TG4, and possibly TV3, RTÉ Aertel and others perhaps - will already be a crowded mux.

    (2) Rights issues. I rather suspect some at least of 3e's shows have pay-TV rights only. No proof of this mind you...
