    Hi,
I have to get a BER for my one bed apartment.
How much should I be paying for this?
And where would be a good place to get someone to do it?
    Thanks.

Just a reminder to everyone what this forum is all about. Its not a place for either looking for an assessor or for anyone to offer their services.

Discussions/debates are fine but pimping will result in amputation.

Sorry. I am just looking for people's experiences with it all. I don't have a clue about it. I don't want to fork out 500 quid only to find out I got ripped off.

If someone has used a reputable company and is able to recommend them or pass on their experiences that would be great.

a one bed apartment should cost no more than 250..

shop around and you will get it for less....

but make sure the assessor has a construction qualification, its highly likely that an assssor that can recognise constructions will give you a better rating.

    Why?

    what he said...

You should be able to get one done for less than 200 euro excl. VAT.

Because someone with a construction background will know what they are looking at...as opposed to someone who doesn't, who would just call a wall a wall...

Would someone without construction skills be able to tell a timber frame wall from a concrete insulated formwork wall from a cavity wall from a solid stone wall...I doubt it.

Here is a list of registered assessors all members of BERAA. One of these should be ok. Look for one in your area.
    http://www.berassoc.ie/?page_id=84

I hope this is ok as im not recomending any one in particular.

No problem. My comment was more of a general statement in keeping with the charter and a general reminder to everyone and not directed at any individual.

We don't have a problem with anyone sending a PM with a recommendation but in response to your query we had some clown post up here advertising himself as being the best thing since slided bread. You dont see that here as it is now deleted but Im looking straight at it.

The guys here will keep you right in any event :)

In the light of your ruling above and the fact that many, many highly qualified construction BER assessors who have registered with the national authority SEI at considerable expense. Many of these have better construction qualifications than the small number advertised in the above link.

I think it is unfair and contrary to your ruling that a small number of assessors should be allowed to advertise in the manner above and restricts the person enquiring from making a fully informed choice from the full list of registered assessors.

I would have no problem with the SEI site being cited as the proper place to look for assessors.
I agree 100% with your ruling but I think that this one got in under the radar: I'm surprised at the person being thanked. This is writt en with all due respect and not being personal to anyone

Tim asked for an assessor to do a BER.
TC gave a link which involves a small number of assessors. This link does not give the full list of assessors in Ireland.
I believe that the SEI link should be given whenever a link is quoted in these circumstances. This is fair to all assessors and also fair to Tim who after all is the customer and is entitled to shop around and get the best deal for his assessment. If Tim now thinks that the small number of the assessors advertised in the link are the best place to get an assessment, then Tim the customer has been disadvantaged.
Put simply I believe that advertising the link involved is blatently contrary to your ruling re advertising.

Giving the national SEI link covers all registered assessors in Ireland and fair to everyone, customer and assessors alike. Tim's intelegence re quality, will sort the rest out and Tim's location in Ireland also.
    Written with all due respect.:D

Yes I understand what you are saying and the link given is indeed to an association which represents only some of the BER assessors and not all. The list does not imply the competency or professionalism of any or all of the assessors listed nor does the list on the SEI's web site but it is up to the OP to ascertain that he is getting provided with a professional service.

I, or any of the mods here, actually welcome the posting of that link as we would welcome the posting of the link to the list of approved assessors on the SEI's web site if someone cares to do so.

In this particular instance the OP asked "where would be a good place" to get an assessor and he got a response that was in keeping with the charter. We are more than happy to have people post up links to multiple listings but we cringe when we see the likes of this
I'm a registered SEI Assessor. I've just PM'd you details.

Anyone else want info or a price PM me also!
That was part of the post that I deleted so I felt it necessary to state our position clearly for the benefit of anyone else who would feel the urge to pimp their services here. The likes of that wont be allowed and that particular user is permanently banned from here

I hope this has clarified matters.

The link in question above and its members do not have to be registered assessors to be members. Even students can be members. All one needs to do is pay the required fee and use the logo.
I ask is advertising a link to unregistered people and students "a good place to get a professional BER assessment"? Members of above organisation does not have to pass the relevant national exams.

Everyone on the SEI site is registered and qualified to do a BER and would answer the OP's question perfectly i.e "where would be a good place".
    The SEI link
    http://193.178.2.42/SearchAssessors.aspx
is the only national registered BER assessors link with all 100% qualified people to do BER.

Of course people will claim to be better than others at doing the same job but thats what advertising is all about and people are entitled to embellish their position when advertising themselves.

You indicated that you banned one person (no connection to me), welcomed and thanked a group of 23/24 other people advertising their wares.
SEI has 2004 fully qualified registered assessors as I write.
I'm confused here with your charter:confused:
You say that advertising is not allowed? Where is the consistency?

What in the name of Jesus, Mary and their wee donkey do I have to do to explain this to you.

If one person pimps their services here then they get banned.

If one person posts a link to list of multiple assessors/firms/businesses/associations then that is fine as it benefits the community by giving them a choice. topcatcbr quite clearly stated that it was "a list of registered assessors" and I have no reason to doubt that.

Quite frankly you are coming across as a troll. Now if you are not happy with my response here then please take the matter up by either PM or post a thread in the feedback forum or the Help Desk.

Im done here and I dont want this thread derailed any further. No more posts on this matter and thats final.
