getting insurance from another state??

    Hi,

    I see alot of us are going up north and to the Uk to buy cars, but what about getting car insurance up north or the uk can it be done??..would it be accepted down here??

    its gotta be cheaper:cool:

    U'd have to a resident there - otherwise they wont even quote you

    +1. There's no legal way around it, I'm afraid. We all have to put up with the insurance prices.

    My recommendation is to get a job in a insurance company or broker ;)

    on the subject of brokers....whats the point/advantage in going to one?? ..i mean your more or less going to get the same quote if you deal with an insurance company yourself

    If that were true brokers wouldn't exist. Brokers exist to widen the insurance company's market, and the insurers give them special rates for doing this. You're almost always better off going to a broker.

    insurance can be obtained from any company registered with the Irish Financial Regulator (or possibly any EU financial regulator) but most company's don't want to offer cover here as its not worth the hassle. If you did get cover on a UK policy (with a 'fake' UK address) then you would more than likely be limited to a max of 60 or 90 days abroad and often they want to be aware of this period beforehand.

    As for brokers, they often get special rates from insurance companys and can pass these discounts on to their customers.

    really:confused: well i got two quotes from my local broker yesterday......so when i went home i phoned the companies myself, and guess what...i got the same quotes......so where's the advantage??
