It's just a part-time bottom of the ladder position in their Ballymoney store in Derry.

However I'm in college and parents can't afford to send me much.

I'm planning on wearing a pair of stylish officey type grey slacks, shoes and and white shirt, not sure about tie. Have the option of a suit but thought that might be overdoing it.

My main previous experience is in a bank office for three years up until August 08, working directly with customers but only by phone, before that I worked in some clothes shops doing general customer service and just before Christmas worked in an O'Briens sandwich shop for a few weeks(seasonal work, wasn't fired) Not sure which experience I should push in the interview, the banking where I was semi supervisory but not as related, or the customer services which are more relevent to the job at hand but over 3 years ago

I'm gonna be in Dublin for 5 days in March including a weekend, should I mention this at interview, thats the only time I'll be away though. If they offer me full time work I'd prob stay for the summer also, but part-time it wouldn't be worth my while. How do you think I should approach this?

    Thanks

Lidl are one of the better payers for retail staff though I don't know how it works in the UK. Better then Tesco for sure

Keep the slacks, shoes & white shirt and wear a tie, blue is grand.
No need for a suit jacket imo though others will disagree.

I like the cut of your gib, you've everything you need for this job.
Stress reliablilty, honesty (you handled cash!) and teamwork. Now if you were going for a management job I'd post something entirely different.
    Realy that's the main things.
Edit: Banes05 is right, you're dealing with the public, show you can do it

Well they want people to be flexible now and again and not someone who wants to pick and choose their shifts.
But with college you obviously won't be able do Mon-Fri so best to say.
Hey if you do a few months in Derry maybe you could pick up some hours in a Lidl in Dublin if you wanted. Surely you won't be out being a drunken student every night! :p
This sort of thing is pretty common, you just need to show you're doing a good job in Derry.

Ive been with the company over 4 years now, so feel free to ask any questions. I will say this, imo its an absolutely perfect student job but it can be demanding and there is a degree of flexibility required, but the money is in line with that

Slacks and a shirt will definitely impress the interviewer, ive interviewed quite a few for similar postitions and the opinion seems to be that it shows a much better attitute.

I would advise to really emphasise your experience in dealing with the general public (be sure to have an example prepared of how you dealt with a difficuly situation). Theyre really looking for a person who they believe is reliable, flexible and a friendly attitute towards shoppers .

I wouldnt mention your need for holidays until you get offered the job, generally its not that big of a deal.

If you do get the job, you'll probably be offered a 10 hour contract, guaranteeing you a minimum of 10 hours a week, but provided you prove to be a good worker, therell be about 30 hours a week or thereabouts for you in the summertime

Most of the time when you are called for interview you are 99% guaranteed the job for retail jobs. Make sure your references are good and you should get it. And dress smartly, though not so smartly as to intimidate your manager.

First thing is to not get the location of the shop wrong at the interview. Ballymoney is in County Antrim!
