I cant finish games....

I think this post belongs in the Playstation forum due to the bulk of this problem being with playstation games, but not exclusivley.

Now for many years i have had problems finishing many of the games i invest time into playing, i usually manage to reach the final stage/boss etc. but once i save my game before the last part, i turn off the console and never play the game again (unless i lose my game save, then i just start again and repeat the same). This has happened with games like Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy 6, 7 and 9, Beyond Good and Evil, every ratchet and clank game, Jack and daxter, Uncharted, GTA 3 and 4, Resistance FOM, Dead Space, the list is much much longer than this and its pretty ridiculous to be honest. It seems as if once i reach the final boss i just dont really care for the ending, ive seen and experienced most of the game at that stage and just couldnt be bothered.

Now there are many games that i HAVE finished, like ICO, SOTC, all the MGS games, all those FF games inbetween and after the ones mentioned above, tons of classic games like LoZ: Link to the past and lots of downloadable games too like Flower and Pixel Junk Eden, the list of games i have finished is probably longer than the list of games i havent and its not as if the final boss'/stages etc. are too hard, far from it, but all the same i cant seem to explain it.

Has anyone else got this problem? Maybe there should be the equivilant of AA for people like me. :pac:

Maybe you don't want to clear the end boss coz you know the experience will end?!

I thought it might be that, but no.. its just a complete lack of interest from then on. Kinda sad really, as a game can be good or bad based on its ending and my severe disability has deprived me of such things :(

    +1

The only game I've ever completed (besides WWE games, which I don't really count) is Jak And Daxter

 I did this with GTA3, Vice City & San Andreas. Absolutely no reason why. Just before the last mission I turned off the console, took out the disk and never touched them again. I can't explain it, thought it was just me. Gald to know I'm not the only freak out there.

I'm surprised by you not wanting to see the ending of Uncharted... Every cutscene in that was a pleasure to watch, even though the game itself was fantastic I still found myself playing on to find out what happened next... (and you'll also net yourself some easy trophy points)
The last boss battle was quite annoying though, I almost found myself turning the difficulty down for that one...

I'm usually in it until the bitter end, but there are a few games that I haven't finished due to the difficulty spike in the final boss battle. Puzzle Quest being the most recent:o

Uncharted rocked, and wasn't very hard, many of todays games seem to be big on spectacle but short on challenge, Prey, MGS4 and Bioshock to name a few.
I, too, don't finish a lot of games, but that's more down to the sheer volume of titles I own, If I live for the next 60 years and don't buy any more, I might just finish them, not sure though....

    I don't think I've finished a single game on the PS3 yet.
    MGS4, Drake' Fortune/Wipeout/GRID/BF:Bad Company/BF:Modern Combat/Ninja Gaiden/ and a few othes.
A pc gamer so maybe that explains it.

yeah I used to be a bit like that. I'd get 3/4's through a game then start another one and never come back to the other game. It got irritating having such a backlog of unfinished games that I made a point with myself to only start a new game when I'd finished the old one. I tend to finish games faster now because I know I won't be starting the next until I do.

This is platform specific though, like I might have a different game started on my PS3, main PC and HTPC at the same time. So I'll have a few different games on the go between platforms but never more than one on a given platform.

Exceptions would be race/sports games which don't really have a story to complete, or multiplayer online games. Also PSN games which I view as more partition games.

It's also very rare that I'll just quit a game, regardless of the game, I'll give it a chance. A lot of the time some mediocre games really pick up in quality in the last act (examples: Blacksite Area 51, army of two, Turning Point: Fall of LIberty, Infernal) The last game that I just couldn't bare to continue with was the new Golden Axe

I do have some great regrets, not finishing SOTC, giving up on Metroid Prime at that last pesky boss, the only Sonic game ever finishing was Sonic 3, not completing Mario Galaxy or Sunshine, and many more...

I will get back to SOTC and Galaxy though, even if I have to break out the Gamefaqs to do it!

That's mad, I was just thinking I never finished Metroid Prime or Mario Sunshine. For me, I just didn't really take to Sunshine but, with Metroid Prime, I was at the last boss but I never got one of the gun upgrades (making it very feckin' difficult to beat).

I find that adventure games (final fantasy, the Resident Evils before RE4) are very difficult to go back to, once you leave them. I could never remember where I was supposed to go or what to do and I just gave up.

Oh man! You just have to go back and finish SOTC. Games like that don't come around that often! For Metroid 3, that last boss is tough, its almost not worth it, it took me a good few hours to complete it.

This happens from time to time with me. 75% of the time ill finish games out. I only ever stop if im not enjoying them. I was half way through Dreamfall TLJ and stopped because the game mechanics were crap and the story was just alright. That was about a year back. Thats the last game i stopped that i have no intention of going back to.

If your getting as far as the last boss OP, then feck it put the head down and complete it. You might as well get all the enjoyment out of your 60 euro.

Yeah it's happened me with a few games - I normally finish everything, but near the end of Stalker I just gave up, bored with the game. Same again with Dead space & GTA IV - just got sick of them and had something more interesting to play..

My pet hate is end of level/game bosses i cant see why they do it why have enemies that are at a normal level to kill then all of a sudden have this massive stupid enemy that takes 100's of bullets or special tactics to kill. So i normally will play a game up tothe end of game boss then quit MGS being a prime example im about hald way through killing the last guy and i cant face back into it. And half the time the method used to kill these bosses have no bearing on lodgic.

But what also gets me is ill play 60% through a game then take a break for a week or two then when i go back to it i have forgotten all the buttons and its like palying a new game again but you are well into the game so you have no time for a learning curve !!

I'm the same. I've got a load of games that I haven't finished yet. It's more due to the fact that something else new and shiney comes out so I have to buy it and play it, something else then comes out and the cycle continues. I do tend to complete PC games more so than the console variety. I have completed GTAIV on PS3 as that drew me in from the word go. I've still got the below to complete the latest

MGS game (4 is it ? I kinda got stuck on a section and haven't played it since, that was a good few months ago).
Dead Space - although I am slowly making my way through it.
Uncharted - again, I've gotten stuck on a section and haven't returned to it yet.

I'm sure there are others that I cannot think of but I've mostly been playing the guitar hero and rock band games lately as they're great fun and don't really have an ending per se.

Now SFIV is out, I'm awaiting delivery of it from Amazon :)

Agreed, I hate the way that the difficulty will often ramp up at the very last moment often to the point of driving me away from completing the game (FFX, Ninja Gaiden 2 are recent examples that spring to mind). In saying that I do make a point of trying to finish all my games and can say that I would finish at least 80% of them.

Man you really missed out! It was epic. The sense of accomplishment was amazing, probably the toughest/most rewarding boss fight ever (apart from mother brain!)

I'm the exact opposite. I hate games that just end with no real challenge at the end. Which is why I appreciated the recent Sonic: Unleashed, the learning curve was fairly steady throughout up until the last zone which suddenly spiked in difficulty. Also all the levels in it, including the numerous bosses play back to back. If you have enough lives it will take you well over 2 hours to complete it. But at the end of it there was a real feeling of accomplishment. The difficulty kept building and building until the final crescendo.

The only other game I can think of that had such a noticeable difficulty spike at the end was Psychonauts. I mean the last level felt like a completely different game.

My other problem I find is playing games on my main PC, like FPS and RTS. I find I'll sit down to play a game, quickly go to check my email, hit the stumbleupon button then all of a sudden its 3am, I haven't played anything and am still clicking around the internet, reading about 100 year old base jumpers of something, lol :D I find there are just way too many distractions on my main PC.

Are we talking MP1 or MP3 here?
I also gave up on MP3, the last boss fight had a nasty difficulty spike, it seemed totally unfair seeing as I didn't even die in any of the boss battles before that!... Considered restarting the game on normal mode or just persevering with the battle, but just couldn't be arsed in the end. Might check out the ending on youtube later, I could do with some closure!
MP1 had a fairly easy final boss, but I never managed to get past Meta Ridley on hard mode:o

I liked the end of assassins creed. Great game first time round but very little if any replay value
