Ok I am looking to get a website but I have little or no funds. A friend told me you can get one up and running for as little as €150 if you know hhow. Well, I don't know how and I do have the time and patience but not sure about the know how. Where do I start to research this? Any ideas would be great. thanks.

you could also check out www.digiweb.ie Their hosting comes with a free website builder. Probably your best option given the tiny budget.

€150 for what? What exactly do you want this website to do? What is it for?

Jesus. That's shocking. They're getting €100 for that? I really need to get into the low-end web design business.

Form input buttons as menu navigators. Amazing.

If you really want a basic brochure website, you can download and use open source templates from Open Source Web Design, these templates are open source and usually conform to HTML/CSS standards, so you are free to use them and modify them, doing so in a decent text editor such as Notepad++ is easy enough. If you want a more advanced site such as one users get logins, publish new material through a back end etc, you can get open source CMS (Content management system) such as Joomla or Drupal. These two solutions have many "Add ons" you can get to add additional functionality, Gallerys, Forums, etc...

    Agreed.

I feel I'm being ripped off by this crowd by not publicising my webdesign skills.

That is shocking....Im not the greatest at design sites but that is beyond a joke if they are charging people.

    Anyways,OP!
More description would be helpful. Are you developing for yourself or someone else?

You can get a free domain name here.http://www.co.cc/.
This is not ideal but it saves you abit of cost just to get it up and running. Once you have that done, you can look at getting a proper .ie,.com etc domain

Their transition year students, with obviously no training in usability or consistency, using standard push buttons for navigation is the most ridiculous thing though, its not as if coding nice CSS buttons is difficult, you can even copy CSS code from a open source template and integrate that into the site

In my opinion www.letshost.ie are exellent. I used them to make my own site and have recieved exellent feedback. Simple web building tool you just login to there page and design and edit your site also get a load of email addresses and storage. I paid €140 for the addition of shop page capabiliteis. which i can sell stuff on. Think its a great option for the novice. Basic with out shop is €70 euro. Also theyre servers are **** quick too.
Visit my site which i made from it if you like. Details in my contact info.
