Accommodation, Room types?

So accommodation applications for next year are being accepted now until March 17th. It seems they've shaken up the room types a bit.

    Just looking through them:

    Apartment Double
    Apartment Single
    Apartment Twin
    Ensuite Double
    Ensuite Single
    Ensuite Twin
    Single
    Twin

Does anyone know which apply to which rooms on campus? i.e. are there ensuite twins in front square? Or are they just Apartment Singles? Or just Singles? What about the apartments in botany bay, which category would they come under?

I would assume, from memory, that there are no ensuites in Botany Bay, and that those refer to Goldsmith, but I could be wrong. Only place I saw an ensuite in my entire time in college was GS anyhow.

As an add on to this, where's getting redecorated this year? :P

Surely Goldsmith would come under the "Apartment" heading rather then twin double etc. though. There are very few en-suite rooms in Goldsmith anyway. There are definitely some in the GMB too.

I'd say Botany Bay is classed as a double apartment; that's where I live, there's two of us each with our own room, and we share the bathroom and the kitchen/living area. It would be a twin apartment if we were sharing a room I think, and an ensuite if we each had our own bathroom. Some of the apartments in Botany Bay have three rooms in them, but most are doubles.

One of my friends is in Goldsmith Hall; there are five in her apartment and she has an ensuite in her room, but the other four share two bathrooms. There are also ensuites in the GMB

Last year on the application you applied for 'Standard' or 'Modern' when picking your room type. Can you still apply with a friend?

You can now choose whether you want to apply for Campus or Goldsmith, the list of room types changes depending on what you choose, for Goldsmith it's Apartment Double, Apartment Single and Single Flat (I'm not sure what the difference is between an apartment and a flat...) The room types page sheds some light on what it all means but I'm still confused... and yes, you can still apply with friends.

So does anyone know how much rates will be next year? Do they usually go up year-on-year? Also will they now be done on a semesterized, twice-yearly basis to go with the new academic year?

Does anyone know if any 2nd Years get on-campus accomodation? I'm thinking of applying, I know it's very unlikely that I'll get an on-campus apartment considering they are, understandably, mainly reserved for third and fourth years. But I guess there's no harm in applying anyway, I've got nothing to lose.

So basically I'm just wondering, of the on-campus accomodation, which one is the most likely to get into, i.e. which one is the least popular? I'm presuming it's Goldsmith that I would have the best chance. Anyone have any idea?

    Nothing to lose except €15...

Your best bet is to apply for Halls, there are places for second years there. Or, a very slim chance for a shared room on campus, or under the scéim.

Does anyone know is it possible for 2nd years to get on campus? Is involvement in College activities ie Phil, Tn taken nto account? Also how does one apply to Sceim and how fluent is fluent? Leaving cert A and Gaeltacht experience sufficient?

There's an application form for the Scéim on the Oifig na Gaeilge page, afaik. I imagine they do take society involvemenent into account, though I dunno if the Phil would be relevant... maybe An Cumann Gaelach, Tradsoc, GAA would be more important.*

*This is going off what a friend of mine told me.. she went for the interview and they asked her why she doesn't play any GAA sports...

Supporting statement?? Any ideas? I'm thinking of writing about involvement in societies and the SU and stuff, living at home in Dublin at the moment but I've heard (or read on boards) that this isn't the be all and end all?

I know poeple who've lived in or near Dublin who have gotten accomdation on campus. Some weren't even massively involved in societies. Of course I also know people from a fair bit outside of Dublin who were reasonably involved in socieites who didn't get it, so I dont really understand the system!
