Upgrade mobo or GFX card

I want to add a Pinnacle 7010ix to my HTPC. It won't fit at the moment because I have a silent 8500GT which plugs into the pci-e slot and the heatsink is over the smaller pci-e slot which the Pinnacle card needs.

The mobo is Gigabyte GA-M61PM-S2. link and does not have a DVI or HDMI output, just VGA so my GFX card gives me my DVI output.

So to make room for the Pinnacle card, I need to either
    1) replace the mobo with one which gives room for both cards
    2) new mobo with HDMI that can play HD movies nicely and get rid of GFX card
    3) update the gfx card to a single slot sized card

    Anyone got any advice?

Seems like a shame to get rid of the gfx card.

FYI - I have a gigabyte ga-ma78gm-s2h with integrated ATI Radeon HD3200-based graphics and it has no problem with HD content.

Your board has a GeForce 6100, right? Could you connect to your TV using VGA cable and use the PCIe slot for the Pinnacle?

I've no VGA connection on the TV so thats a no go.

On this Dell PC which is running XP, it has a ATI x300 which has DVI so I could swap that in. I'm not sure if that would handle HD or Vista very well. I'll have to install the TV Pack or upgrade to Win7 beta also, so not sure what impact that will be. Could be worth a try and would a lot less hassle than changing the mobo.

That GA-MA78GM-S2H mobo looks good. I'd go for that if thats the route I need to go.

If the x300 doesnt do the job there are some cheap enough gfx cards which should fit in a single slot.

    Sapphire Radeon HD 4350 512MB DDR2 is only €35.

    Or Gigabyte Radeon HD 4550 512MB DDR3 is €52.

That should give a better solution that the mobo upgrade. If they don't cover the small pci-e slot, that is.;)
