Legrand Comms box in apaartment

    hi,

I recently bought a new apartment in D18. It comes with Broadworks as the only option (That has been tackled on another thread!). In my storage room i have one of these legrand boxes with what looks to me like a 5 port switch, another CAT5 hub/multi-port type thing, and a 8 point COAX splitter.

It already has 5 CAT5 cables connected to the multi-port thingy, and it has 5 other cables hanging loose, originally i thought these were coax but on closer inspection they seem to be made up of 5 smaller cables i.e. not COAX.

Can anyone tell me what this is for beyond my own assumpitions. Im guessing they are fed up to the apartment from a central comms room somewhere on site. i have no intention of using the centeral feed as you can imagine so my question really is how to make use of this box internally without the need to connect to lousy broadworks. I tried feeding my wireless router into the switch but got nothing out of the room sockets. FYI - i was a network engineer in a previous life so dont be afraid to get technical if requried.
