Humax HDCI 2000T PROBLEM

    Dear all,

I have a problem with this box now that is almost constant. This issue started gradually but would disappear if the box was switched off and back on again. I have even tried default resets but now this doesn't even cure the problem.

What is the problem? It is that the picture freezes and unfreezes in a series of successions resulting in very 'jerky' viewing! The sound is unaffected. This problem has gradually got worse over the last few months. I also have another STB of this model that is working fine and has never given any trouble. I have also tried software updates but none have been available to date.

It may be worth pointing out that the box with the problem was aquired from the UK and was used for the London HD trial. The trouble-free box came from Ireland. I don't know if this is relevent as I understand the two boxes to be one and the same, the boxes used for the Irish trial having been slightly adapted UK boxes.

Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know how to fix it? Advice would be gratefully appreciated! TX is 3 Rock Ch 54

    Thanks,

    Peddyr

Initially that sounds like interference from another source. You could check that the signal quality and strength isnt hopping around by going into the menu and viewing the stength and quality bars. If its stable enough then its not interference it might be corrupt firmware.

Assuming it is, reload the firmware (its in the rapidshare link below).

Before you install it Reset to factory settings (password is 0000). This will clean off the existing firmware.

Then download http://rapidshare.com/files/129839346/humax.exe to your desktop.

You'll need a null modem cable.

Connect the cable to serial port on your PC and the other end to the R232 port on the back of the box. Make sure box is swiched off. (it can still be left connected to your TV)

    Double click the exe.

    Switch on box.

When connected it will display progress on your PC (and on the box).

Let it do the flashing - takes about a minute and a half. It will reboot itself. Disconnect the null modem cable.

It should ask you for country etc. Then you rescan and it will find 4 TV 4 radio.

    Hope that solves it.

Have you tested both boxes on the same aerial? i.e. the exact same aerial point with the exact same link lead (I had this problem with a DTT box only a few weeks ago).

To me it sounds like a dropout in signal, have you monitored the signal strength/ quality whilst experiencing this problem (not familiar with this model so not sure where to point you).

    Hi Folks,

Thanks very much for your advice. Signal is stable with strength at 85% and quality at 100% (some 90 miles as the crow flies from 3 Rock to IOM). Both boxes on same antenna - (48 element hi-gain wideband digital UHF), so sounds like a firmware issue. I've downloaded Humax.exe (thanks STB) and will get myself a null modem cable and give it a go and let you know how it goes.

    Thanks again. :)
