    1) if you are registered you charge vat and return it at the end of the vat period to the revenue less inputs but yes 1.35 would go to revenue

    2) It makes no difference where you buy the part but yes 2.15 would go to revenue

    3) the part will still cost you 10 euro as you have a vat no. but you will be adding 3.23 onto the 15 euro and returning that to the revenue

Hi Nigel thanks for clearing that up for me.
I've one more question if you don't mind.
I have a contact in germany for parts and they said they won't take of the vat for me when im buying from them. What do i do in this situation?

In this case if you have a valid VAT No. you can claim back VAT from the German VAT authorities

But wouldn't the german vat crowd be missing out then? Or is it different when your exporting?

Technically but its european VAT law. In the reverse a Irish individual can buy from a company in Germany, pay German VAT that the Irish Government misses out on.

Don't you need to work out VAT on EU purchases and add it on to sales VAT amount and purchases VAT amount which cancels it out? And give amount of purchases from EU?

    Whoa!

    Alarm bells.

    Are you VAT registered?
    Are you filing VAT returns?

You don't just fire off the Revenue some cheques.

imight be wrong here but i thought if you are vat registered and the person you are purchasing from in the uk was vat registered that the uk person wouldnt charge you vat and you would charge yourself in you input vat and offset it in your output

    it is right or wrong?

No. When parts are installed as part of a repair service the VAT rate is 13.5%

No. When both you and the UK (or other EU) company exchange VAT numbers you pay no VAT. At the end of the year you will inform Revenue through their Return of Trading Details form how much other EU goods were purchased.

If you sell the part to an end user (do not install it for him) he pays 21.5% VAT, which you forward to Revenue.

You are right but only for goods supplied not services but the supplier may not of had your VAT number at the time and may of charged you VAT.
