long time lurker, first time poster here...
Just want to ask a few questions about replacing a chain. Iam thinking off replacing the chain on my Speicalized Dolce (2006 model), she has been my workhorse for the last 3 years now, and has clocked up roughly 10,000 miles.
O.k. I know some of ye will give out to me for not doing it earlier! But Iam going to now. However, just want to know....

Should I replace the cassette and the chainring also?

    thanks

Probably need to replace the cassette, the chainring might be ok. Just have a look at the teeth on the chainring. If they are badly hooked, time to replace.

You could also do it by trial and error. Replace the chain, see what happens. If it's skipping on the cassette, replace the cassette. If the chainring is then skipping, replace it

10,000 miles is good going- you probably will have to replace the cassette as Gavin says if this is your first chain replacement. In future replace the chain more often so this won't be necessary.

Worth measuring the existing chain - you probably won't need to replace the chainrings, although I left it far too long on one of my own bikes and indeed did replace them.

Maybe a picture of the cassette would be easiest?
