Hey, I'm applying to Cork School of Music, D.I.T, Maynooth Trinity and one or two others all for music performance courses.
I was researching orchestra s and music groups in the collegs but couldn't find any info for them in Cork or Trinity. I would really appreiciat it if someone had any info on these colleges in particular. Especially seeing as Cork is my first choice, and a big part of college will be joining the orchestra sfor me.

    Thanks in advance!

the cork school of music has a fantastic orchestra, bout 80 strong, and we've got 2 play in city hall and the NCH in dublin, tchaikovsksy, elgar, karl jenkins etc. they also have a jazz big band, and wind ensemble, and the fleischman choir which has about a million pple in it! i play tuba in the orch, im not in college but i manage the local music shop, opus 2. what instrument do you play?

Thanks so much! That's really helpful, now just have to pass the audition, entrance test and gets the points haha.
I play mainly flute and piccolo in the orchestras I'm in at present, but also bass guitar, cello and piano. Bit of an all rounder :p
What are they like to get into? I'm grade 8 on flute, but I'm guessing a lot of the people there are of the same standard?

it might be harder to get in on flute coz ders only 2 r 3 seats, easier for strings coz ders loads of dem. worth a try tho, you seem to play enough instruments to be able to get into any of the groups. wer u from?

Yeah it is always a pain with the lack of seats, hoping piccolo might work my way a bit too. Live in Meath, but hopefully off to Cork.

Don't worry it's actually my 2nd last music choice right before Trinity that is!

Come to DIT. You'd likely be the only undergrad flautist as the two we have graduate this year! And being unique means being in demand...

ooh, good to know! Thanks, its currently tide first choice with C.I.T, and my sis is in D.I.T and really wants me there, so knowing that is definitely, one up for Dublin! :D
D.I.T are so far the only college to have gotten back to me too. By any chance do you know, if I choose to use the accompanist provided for the audition, is there a fee? And do I have to meet up with them before hand for a practice?
    Actually same question regarding Cork?

Aye, DIT ftw. If you take Doshea3 as a typical DIT student, it's certainly the place to be :D
