Using Gmail IMAP with Apple Mail 3.0

    Just thought I'd post this up:

    Gmail IMAP is really nice, but it doesn't work with folder subscriptions in Apple Mail 3.0 (Leopard).

    This is a problem because it means that everything Gmail marks as spam still gets downloaded to you mail folder.

    This causes 2 problems - the first being you store a whole load of spam on your computer, and spam e-mails show up in your spotlight results. The second is that when a spam mail spoofs your address as the sender, all of the mail addresses of spammers come up in auto-complete when you are trying to e-mail your contacts.

    The solution is here: With the new(ish - I just found out about it!) Google Labs Advanced Imap controls feature, you can stop gmail from downloading the spam folder, and the All Mail folder (if thats your fancy) to your mailbox!
