DVD menus

Ok this is a small and possibly melodramatic rant...but does anyone else get slightly annoyed by DVD menus that give too much of the film away in a series of random clips that in many cases go on too long and have you sitting there waiting for the chance to press play...and having the plot spoiled in the process.

I'm all for interactive, animated menus but there are many films out there that I'd just love to watch without having any clue at all about what's about to unfold...for example, one I watched recently "wanted" had a load of clips of what I was about to watch...in fact I knew that the very first character to appear wasn't going to last long cause I saw him get killed before the menu screen became active (and in this case, while the menu screen was active)

Am i being a whiney bitch or does this bother anyone else as well?

Boxsets of 24 are criminal for doing this.

Some menus are horrific for giving stuff away. Can't think of any examples, but if they insist on making menus animated at least use the most generic clips from the film you can find (same goes for trailers, although they've gotten much worse for spoiling things). Other menus can play some sort of animation / montage for the best part of half a minute before allowing you to select the options, which is also completely excessive when you can't skip it.

For a good animated menu, check out something like Serenity which has a simple but dramatic one. Waynes World DVD also has a clever one, creating a fake cable network interface which works really well. For the most part I'd like designers to keep menus simple though - pretty much all the time I just want to press play.

Most animated menus are horribly designed. I want to watch my movie, not spend minutes fiddling with this thing that some junior guy put together at the last minute. And for the love of Christ, stop calling them Special Features of the disk... If you need to have a menu (tv shows primarily), let me interact with it as soon as it is on the screen and not after an introductory sequence.

Bluray has a better idea with this. Straight to the movie, open the menu if needs be. Not always appropriate either, but better than what it was.

    It's not only on menus.

The intro to Match of the Day annoys the arse off me! I don't want to see missed chances god damn it!!!
