FireWire and MacBook Pro?

Do the current MacBook Pro versions have FireWire? One website I've found *seems* to say that they have FireWire 800 ports, and USB 2.0, but no FireWire 400 (that's my two backup externals replaced, then...)

Yes they do have Firewire - only the new MacBooks lost it. However, it is indeed Firewire 800 but is backwards compatible with Firewire 400 - all you need is suitable cables and your Firewire 400 devices should work fine. You'll probably need something like this (depending of course on the type of FW400 connection on your external HDDs):

Also note you should be able to find that cable MUCH cheaper, via Komplett, Dabs, DealExtreme...

Do I need to tag all my posts with ** Disclaimer: Link provided for illustrative purposes, not a retailer recommendation ** from now on? :)

The link was to show the type of connection needed, nothing else... As with everything, shop around, you should be able to get good deals on most types of cables...

Thanks very much, that's good news - didn't know FW 800 was backwards compatible.

It's backwards compatible alright, but they don't make it easy for people when they changed the physical design so much.

Trying to get am 800 cable on short notice is a nightmare. I had to pay 30€ for one just after Xmas.

I thought all cables are marked-up, just because bricks-n-mortar stores think we're all thickos without internet & access to Chinese suppliers?
