was thinking of buying one of these netbooks. This seems like a good deal. Does anyone know if you can put Microsoft windows on this machine?

    Tony.

yep you shouldn't have any problems putting windows xp on this machine. There are tons of tutorials online to tell you how to do this with a flash drive (USB stick) and it's even easier if you have a external CD drive. Just pop the cd in and it should go ahead and install for you

XP is slow on these machines. The SSD is not a fast one. I've used the HDD version and the SSD one. There's no comparison. Ubuntu seems to run fine on it though.
There are workarounds for XP though but probably not for an average user.

I put XP on the HDD version of these and it works perfectly fine. I grew frustrated with linpus trying to install additional software. I run Ubuntu seperately on another machine for technical stuff but I think for the average user, Windows XP is the best bet as long as it is not the SSD hardware.

If you are getting SSD version DO NOT install XP on it. Use Linux or Windows 7.

I have a SSD Aspire One. I put a nlite'd version of XP onto it, got an 8Gb memory SD memory card and put portable apps on it so they run off that, and the SSD can get on with running XP.

Works grand, nice and nippy, though it wasnt the easiest experience of installing XP ive had.

PS. I got a 1Gb stick and put that in it also, so its got 1.5gb ram. Only costs about €15 from crucial.

AFAIK, the preloaded XP ones are only on the 160Gb hard drive version. Which costs a bit more then €199.

Currently on Boffer sell-off for about €176 delivered. Listed as "as new" so maybe a refurb.

I saw this machine in Beyond 2000 on Chatam Row (beside Mao) for 230. That's the cheapest I've seen in a bricks and mortor shop for anyone interested in getting one soon

edit: I just saw that the OP was talking about Currys store and not the website. Well... here's a backup option if Currys sell out :D
