Sky from a central hub....... help

    Hi,

I have just moved to a new house which is pre wired for Sky. I have no requirement for a dish as it comes from a central hub. There are points in all the rooms. I have a Sky Plus box which I have brought with me from my previous house.

The problem I have is that (this is were my lack of knowledge shows) I have been told that as the Sky Plus Box requires two incoming wires from the hub and that there are only two incoming that I cannot put a second box in another room (multi room)

Is this correct? Also am i correct in saying that I could have the same signal going to the other rooms!!!!! This could be difficult for changing channells

Finally folks, if I were to get a dish of my own (against the rules of the neighbourhood) could we use the wires that are already in the house rather than running cable everywhere again.

    Thanks in advance..........

If you only have two incoming satellite feeds, then you are stuck with either Sky+ or 2x standard sky boxes.

Thanks for that byte.......seems like a lack of thought by the developers so. Might pursuade me to get my own dish.

Do you know if I do go down this route can all the pre wired stuff be used as would like to get the multi room.

If there are only two feeds then only one Sky+ box or 2 standard boxes.

However it mightn't be the end of the world, you can take the RF output from the Sky box and feed it to the other rooms. You will be forced to watch whatever is on the main TV, but that might be good enough for you. You can still change the channel and generally control the Sky+ box from the other room via Magic Eye.

As for re-using your existing cabling, it should be possible but it depends on where it is going to and from and how it is wired.

Thanks BK.. I know were I stand now.

I think I might go down the road of my own dish and use existing cable if I can. Couple of reasons. I have heard some neighbours are having trouble with signal coming into the house. (20/30%) So have had them out a few times.

I have discovered that the developer has a warrenty with the installers that when it expires all costs for any problems have to be paid by the householder. And if there are problems already who knows how it will be down the line. Don't fancy paying a hundred quid a pop to get them out

Also can get the multi room without the need for the MagicEye

Will prob ring around see if any installers would be able to use existing cableing etc
