Hey, i got my braces off 5 years ago now. Iv basically been wearing my retainer every night since then except when iv been drinking. Anyway im nearly 23 now and its a bit annoying to be still wearing it and im trying to ease it out now, ie. im only wearing it every 2-3 nights.
So just wondering how long everyone else has worn theres for and were there been any dramatic changes in your teeth when you stopped wearing it?
I know your supposed to wear it for life but i dont really like the idea of it!
    Thanks..

I wore mine for about three years every night so haven't in about seven years, I got sick of them and then got out of the habit, my top teeth stayed perfect and there's a been a small bit of movement in my bottom teeth so they're not as perfect as they were but still very good. I'd say it'd depends on the person how much they'd shift though.

Maybe go back to your dentist and see about getting a permanent retainer? They can be awkward to keep clean but at least you don't have to remember to wear a retainer. Or just ask him if you can stop wearing it. I have a permanent retainer bonded to my lower teeth cos they think they might relapse but my top ones are apparently fine.

Pop into your dentist and see what he thinks. It'd be awful to stop wearing it and have your teeth relapse.
