Laser Eye Surgery Questions

Just wonder if anyone in my particular situation has had it done im making assumotions here as i havnt had the consultation yet but am jsut trying to get a heads up on price and anyones opinions who has had it done.
Im assuming i can have it done and am getting the below:
    Lasik - €595 per eye - €595 x 2 = €1190.00
im on VHI Company Plan Plus and there is a 15% discount through Optical Express for this. 15% discount = €178.50

    So now we are at €1190 - €178.50 = €1011.50

Im also on the lower 20% tax bracket so do i get 20% tax relief on the amount after the VHI discount? Also say i get it all done in 2 weks time. Do i send in a MED1 form the week after or do i need to wait til next yesr to claim back for this years medical expense which would be the laser eye surgery.

Hope thats clear sorry for my ignorance on such things but need it clear in my own head before pursuing further.

You're spot on with the calculations. Regarding the Med 1 you have to waiting until the end of the tax year before claiming it back (ie Jan 2010). Following the budget tax relief is only available on the marginal rate not the higher rate so 20% is the most you'll get back.

Bear in mind it's from EUR595 per eye though. Mine cost almost 3k. I was only like a -1.5 per eye, and told I was ideal candidate, no stigmatism etc. Can't explain it techncally why the price went up, but essentially I was presented with 3 options, sort of like option 1 is ok, results mightn't be perfect but ok, option 2 better etc. So of course while I was doing the job wanted the best possibe outcome.

i was -1.5R, -1.75L and got bi-lasik with wavefront last october. cost was €1770 (apparently that's after i got €500 off each eye, i wasn't really buying the sales pitch though).

results are excellent bar a slight bit of glare when driving at night but that is still gradually improving, i can't recommend it enough. incidentally i sent the med 1 there about a week ago, i'll have 42% of that cost back thank you very much!

no regrets for me. still sharp as a tack. and the fat cheque from the revenue a year after the op topped it off:D
