    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Most pointless poll of the year...

From an astetics point of view i think mercs make both the ugliest and the prettiest cars. BMWs generally seem to fall somewhere in the middle on the attractive side of plain if you know what i mean.

Quality wise i'm assuming they're pretty similar.

OT but Did BMW ever make any Vans? I love the merc Vito would like to see a Beemer effort, lol:D. Sorry i dont know where that came from.

Which is better a Chicken or an Egg....

Some people believe BMW and Mercedes make 1 model of car, Gardai and reporters regularly fall into this category, eg a blue coloured BMW was spotted leaving the scene, could have been a 1 Series, 7 Series, M3, M5 etc, saying it's a BMW is very little help at all.

the boss has an 08 520d, his missus has an 08 e220 cdi.
asked him at the xmas party which he'd take?
merc any day of the week he said. apparently the suspension's too hard on the beemer and the merc is lighter on juice too.
    i'd take the beemer though...

Pfffsshhhh egg obviously. Boiled, broiled, poached, mayonaise, fried or my personal fav curry scrambled. yum. Totally versatile marque. Much like Mercedes, they make EVERYTHING.

I voted for Mercedes. Sure, a BMW will be much more fun to drive along a challenging road, but in terms of everyday driving, nothing is as comfortable or as stress-free as a good Merc. (W124 in my case) :).

My god, You're a business genius.
I tell you now that those eggs will become the breakfast of choice among the recession proof D4 types within the week!

tbh, I feel like i've more control when driving the bmw but the mercedes is more luxurious to drive if that makes any sense...

The last decent Merc was the 126 series, anything since never came close as far as build quality is concerned and reliability issues with the newer ones finished me and Mercedes for good, so that's why I voted BMW. I've owned numerous models of each and wouldn't change from BMW now. It's not an image thing for me it's just unfortunate that most people think that that's the reason for buying them, I like the combination of performance and good quality. That said the basic models of each marque are bland to say the least, I'd sooner have a good speced car a few years old than a new basic model.

I think the poll needs an atari jaguar option.

What a pointless poll anyway!Completely depend what mood you're in! I'd take a merc btw...

Whichever one has a merc badge on it.

    EDIT. DAMMIT Dangermus

Surely this is a 'Daddy or Chips?' poll.

As I approach the wrong side of 40, I crave the 'bouncy castle' option, so it looks that it'll be a Merc for me next time. I'm currently the happy owner of a BMW 320D.

Mercedes for that certain something called 'presence' but only as Junkyard alludes, until a certain year. Then it all went tits up.

Very well. I've been round the course as a passenger a couple of times in the Unimog Museum in Gaggenau.

The Land Rover wins because of its light weight, that's why they rarely get stuck and so many companies buy them. I'd love an old Unimog though, even if it's a Mercedes.:)

Pointless poll so I won't vote but....

I do think Mercedes Benz has contributed more to the evolution of the motor car than possibly any other manufacturer.

basically the latest gadget on the new S class will end up saving someones life ( or some such ) in a punto in 10 years time no ? (Airbags, abs etc )

Edit : btw the 124 was the last well built Merc.

So far 16 farmers have voted. What is it with farmers and Mercs?

Except Motorcycles. Which BMW have a great range of.

Everyone has BMWs and they all seem to look the same. And I prefer comfort over handling. So I voted Mercedes. I've a bit of a soft spot for them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,407 ✭✭✭Quint

Cars looking the same is a german thing.
All mercs look the same. All bmws do. All audis do. All Porshes do.

Mercedes because I want to believe the new C Class is the dawn of a new era, and hopefully a return to form.

Also, Mercedes has a much more interesting history, and has probably contributed more to automotive history than any other Marque.

The new C class look more like a Mitsubishi than a Mercedes and the build quality is a joke for the price of the car. I'll grant you Mercedes has a great history but they're trading on past glories now.
