    hi all,

maybe this is a stupid one but here goes. i am a young unemployed engineer. going through irishjobs there and found a company with two jobs i would be interested in, one at engineer level and the other at technician level, i would be interested in both but obviously would prefer the engineer position. should i apply for both?
they are in separate locations but would be handled by the same HR dept.

i would say go for it. put in two. even in cover letter explain just exactly what u say here. ie would prefer job A. but would also be happy with job B )as u are young ? blah blah, would appreciate any opportunity to get some experience (after all esp for younger engs (if u are young./inexp?) there s a big cross over in the work that technicians and engs do. ) but certainly it cant get in your way. its common snese and anyone could see that.
    good luck.
remember...............its all about getting experience early on so grab anything with two hands and dont worry about pay etc.
    good luck.

Personally, I would try to talk to someone in the company about which role they think you would be most suitable for. Or if that's not an option, only apply for one of the jobs, but mention in your cover letter you noticed they are also looking for engineers/technicians and if they feel your skills and experience would be more suitable for the other job, to please consider you.

thanks for the replies lads. i gave them a ring in the end as there was conflicting information on their own site and the irishjobs site.

another question while i am here, i have spotted another position i am interested in, the company has an online application system and one of the required boxes is salary expectation? i am not sure what to put here as i dont expect to make the same money as i did in my last job. i am coming from engineer grade (over 2 years exp) in construction and this position is in manufacturing (technician grade), hence money drop. i dont want to shoot myself in the foot either by saying i will work for feck all.

would 'open to offers' be cheeky?

Phone the requisite point of contact and find out post your research more about the position. If you can ask the right questions this may generate an initial interest on the phone. I would wait until later in the week now.

Following this if you are clearly not suitable for the other roles don't apply for them and if you are decide which one you want most and subtly imply that you have a particular interest in this position but would be open to exploring other areas with in the business.

Finally, give a bracket Salary Expectations: €32,000 - €38,000 with flexibility availability
