Moving Club

    Hey Guys,

I'm currently in the process of moving from one golf club to another, due to change of location. One thing I found really strange was that when joining the new club, i filled out the usual application form, which requested details of my old club, my gui number, plus handicap cert.
Now I have been issued a new gui card with a new number, and hopefully soon my current handicap will be transferred across.
I find it really strange that I get a new gui membership number. Is this the norm when moving clubs. Surely this results in alot of duplication on the system.
Wouldnt it be more efficient to just transfer my current gui membership number across to the new club, therefore retaining my records.

    Any advice\thoughts would be appreciated

Your GUI number is relative to the club you see. The first 4 numbers identify the club and the last four the player. I think that's why. It's a bit like your laser card with the sort code on it - if you change branch then you get a new card.

It does seem like a lot of hassle for what should be a simple procedure, but then it would probably mess up the system if you had guys changing clubs all the time but not the first four numbers.
